Extremely Stiff/Heavy Clutch
Extremely Stiff/Heavy Clutch
I just got an 03 evo 8, it got a new exedy twin disc put in it Jan 24'. The clutch is extremely heavy, like it's a 400lb leg press to get the clutch down. The bite point is at the bottom. It also has a new oem clutch master cylinder that the previous owner took to a shop put all I plan on flushing the fluid and figured I make this post in case that doesn't fix it. Any ideas of what it is? I'm new to the evo community.
list of drivetrain components
------ all parts installed on Jan 24'
Exedy Twin Disc
Exedy Retaining Clip
oem clutch master cylinder
mitsubishi throw out/clutch release bearing
act monoloc collar
radium fork stop**
Update: fork stop was what was causing hard clutch. New problem I cannot build pressure in the clutch line/slave cylinder.

Exedy Twin HD is a heavier pedal for sure, this is normal and none of what you mentioned with change it.
You can adjust the rod on the pedal under the dash to bring the engagement up a bit, you want to ensure a clean separation is happening so a little more travel may help drivability. But if its getting sufficient release to shift clean where it currently is, I'd just get use to the manners.

could the clutch have been installed incorrectly?
that's what I thought but my uncle has the same clutch and his feels like a normal clutch heavier of course but feasible. I pretty much pull the steering wheel and push against the seat really hard just to get the clutch down. If that's how it is then whatever. just doesn't seem normal I got strong legs too haha but after driving for awhile I get sore and start cramping.

turns out the fork stop is what was making it difficult, I wasn't able to get it into gear so I started flushing the clutch but now it won't hold fluid and pressure. I looked inside the trans inspection hole and everything looks good when it comes to clutch fork and tob. Since it's not building pressure I removed the pill hopefully it magically starts working.
