A friend of a friend was installing a catback, and afterwards he noticed a wierd sound coming from my trans... Currently I don't know so much and in no way have a clue on what the sound is. I'm at college and my car has been sitting at home for a month but school is almost over so I will handle it when I get back. I am posting to see if anyone else has had this sound or knows what the sound is.

So If I rev to ~4k in neutral and engage the clutch, the sound from the engine/trans becomes deeper. When disengaged, it's just the engine. So basically when I have my clutch engaged, some other sound emerges...and I don't know what it is. Currently 3k Miles. The person helping me said it was prolly a loose bearing?? Don't know. Has any stock Evos noticed this? When I go back, I'm going to the dealer to ask...but otherwise I still have a couple weeks. Is this a serious problem?

Well he's worked with a lot of evos, and said that he's never heard a sound because of clutch engangement....... ~_~ bah

 

Bump, Someone mentioned it was a loose bearing somewhere....Any one have any ideas? Hard to fix?

 

if its in 1st gear only then it is normal. If its in 2nd and 3rd also, and you have a tranny whine, then your transfer case maybe shot

if their is a vibration in ur clutch pedal following those sounds. i would guess that your clutch throw out bearing is faulty. i had those noises with vibrations at 500 miles and mitsu warenteed it for me no questions asked.

 

mine has the same sound. when i cruise in third gear, or any gear for that matter when i get off the accelerator pedal, it has this sound like there is an airplane flying over. I would if its the same thing that Vicbdn is mentioning

 

No vibrations, sound is very light. Take the sound of your engine ...and maybe add in the sound of per say... you computer fan blowing.
This is problem i've seen cause i cant hear anything in 2/3rd gear :P

Also, you said transfer case....do evos even have tranfer cases? I thought that was just in part time AWD transmissions. I was talking to some WRX owners...they say they have never even heard of a "Transfer Case." ???


One of my other problems is I have a boost controller... and I lost my stock vacuum line. Don't remember what it looked like either... So i'm hesitant about going in with a boost controller. Other than that just a exhaust / intake. If anyone has any info on that I could use osme help too!
