Question Clutch slipping

I have the BR stage 4 setup. Well I let my brother-in-law drove my car and after that my clutch was shot\slipping. I was gonna take it to the track this weekend too. It sucks and I was hoping the stock will last a little longer but the time came. I think he was riding on the clutch too much and long! car have just a little over 10K miles. With my mods I think the warranty is void. Not sure if its worthwhile to even take to the dealer for a check.

Just wondering if it will be okay to drive long distance (to a shop) with the clutch slipping. Also too many clutch choice out there and I wish $$$ could be no issue but not in my case.

Anyone know if the ACT street clutch will hold this kind of power or do I need to go to a twin disc (Exedy, etc).

I guess the lesson here is don't let anyone ride your car if the clutch is stock. The engagement point is too high and takes time to get use to. By the time a newbie gets use to it the clutch will be fried.

Thanks

The ACT is supposed to hold over 400whp and around the same torque if I remember right... while your there do the flywheel. Mitsuorder can't say enough good about the combo.

Thanks a lot. When you mention flywheel are you talking about buying a new lighten flywheel or resurfacing the stock one?

New light weight... Seems the lightly modified people think it is one of the best mods they have made. Since your already there when it's tore down, might as well. I think Road Race has the best deal. I'd get their upgraded disc also... it is supposed to handle heat a little better. They give you a chunk of change off the flywheel if yoiu buy it as a package.

Thanks a lot. There are many choices so hope I do make the right one.

I don't know if buying the EVO was a good thing anymore. I didn't realize the maintenace on this thing was going to be so high $$$ especially when the car is still new. The clutch issue I understand but hope after the clutch it's not one thing after another (syncros, TC, tranny). This is the first and last MIT for me.

If you fried your stock clutch I'll bet you have a blued (annealed) fly wheel too. Your dealer will laugh at you if you try to get your clutch replaced at no cost. It is only under warrenty for defects, not design limitations. I have just over 10k on mine and have smelled it three times so I'm saving my pennies. Oh well...

I went with the Exedy twin disk and have liked it so far. Much better than stock. When I took my stock clutch off at 15K it still looked almost brand new.

With BR stage 4 no way a dealer will replace the clutch under warranty.

How's the chattering with the Exedy twin disk? Is it holding up? I heard the chattering from twin dik clutch can be annoying.

It seems by virtue of design, that all multi plate clutches are going to rattle. If your not an avid drag racer, and don't plan on building a 500whp monster, the ACT or RRE X clutch seem to be the best bang for the buck. Now if money were no object, and you were looking for something to stand up to launch abuse, look at the RPS or ATS twins or triples for all out performance. However, expect to pay at least a 1/10th the total cost of the car for these.
