Short shifters: are they worth the upgrade??
Sorry but I love my Perrin short shifter. Shifts are much more positive. Yes all short shifters require more effort but if you can't push the shifter into gear you either need to lift weights or get an automatic.
A big improvement to the short shifter is a weighted knob. I am using a 300g Razo knob and would like it as much with that 10c knob Mitsu put on there.

Yeah, I really like my Perrin short shifter too. Initially, shifts were more difficult, but after polyurethane bushings, under the hood bushings (decreases notchiness a bunch), 340g weighted RAZO shift knob, and an extra little 8 oz bar of counterweight I added to the bottom end of the shifter, it feels 200% better than stock with about a 2.5 inch throw now (down from about 4 inches).
I dunno man, those cable/link bushings are pretty hefty actually
But they make a big difference, removing a lot of the stock notchiness/rubberiness making the shifting action a lot smoother and more precise feeling.

I've heard alot about these underhood bushings...I suppose i will order my set's tomorrow. As for short shifters, I love them. I have had a short shifter on every manual vehicle I have ever owned. And in my gsx, it made a world of difference, I have the Kartboy short shifter in my Evolution 8 now. That's just the kind of shifts I am used to. I suppose if you are used to long throw stock shifters, and have no willingness to "reatain" your shifting abilities, then you're just lazy. It takes about a day to get used to it. After that, nothing but quick shifts down the line....But that's just my $.02
