What is the potential of the EVO stock turbo?

Well I was just wondering what is the potential of the stock turbo in the EVO? How much power can the stock turbo make, is 450AWHP possible on the stock turbo, maybe more? Is it possible for the EVO to run in the 10s in the 1/4 mile with the stock turbo? I ask this because there are some EVOs out there that have run high 11s with stock turbos and no NOS, and their list of modifications isn't that long at all. Is the stock turbo capable of making the power to push these cars into the 10s without NOS?

I think the engine is capable, but I think you have to go with bigger ball bearing turbo to get to 400+ whp and 10's...

I know you could get to mid~high 12's with stock turbo with no internal mods...

I think the engine could actually take the NOS with the stock Turbo to make it into 10's.

These are bullet proof engines. Volvo uses Mitsu turbo, i think...

If you go get a dynoflash Al's car is running 11.14 in the 1/4 WITH a stock turbo an I think (not sure) he has 502whp w/ no nos the ECU has alot of room for improvement

With some money spent, you can make the stock turbo spool (24psi) by 2800rpm. I think it will max out at about 380-390whp and that's almost killing the damn thing.

Trust me, with an optimized stock turbo setup, you'll have your hands full.

I couldn't imagine 380 whp that would just be insane. Mines at 340hp/310tq on race gas right now and I ran 8.04 in the 1/8 which is something like a 12.5-12.6 in the 1/4 mile. This was my first time out and I had a 1.75 60 foot time so these times should be right in line with the power I'm making. I wish I knew where my tq went, it should be a little higher I think. Regardless I'm amazed at what this stock turbo can do. Here is my dyno sheet and mods

350 is about the upper limits of the stocker...............

I want to see the time slips of 11 second runs on stock turbo, no Nos.................

10s on a stock turbo ................... (not even if you could stip off 1000 pounds) come on the evo is a great , no, fantastic machine, but remember 2.0 liter engine. My Z06 5.7 liter beast from hell is lucky to run 12.7. you would need a Garrett 35/40R with the right housing

Not many evo runnig in the high 10's, only one I can think of, 12.4-6 is a more realistic on stock turbo while still keeping the car streetable

What the hell are you talking about. I have seen a 10 sec EVO here in LA at the track. EVOs are really easy to hook up. with a $2400 turbo kit I am high 11s on a stock engine and cams. Stock turbo can take up to 23 psi and then it turns to a ball of fire. no more than 350 to 370 whp with stock turbo. Even if someone out there with higher numbers on stock turbo EVOs i can say that kiss your turbo good bye.

Gee.... sounds pretty much like I said I know of a 10 sec evo and its worked . I bet thhe 10 sec evo you saw was not a stock turbo! Your high 11's with a turbo UPGRADE, duh thats just about gets the jist of my post(stock turbo-350 whp , mid 12's ,low 12's if done really right, on a great track day, with the moon in alignment)

I know lots of shops and vendors need, want to sell lots of upgrade stage packages, but if it were as easy as "turning up the boost" all these places would be out.

I guess you could always boost up, spray a 150 shot of Nos, and go for one good run before you had to rebuild the internals and the entire drive train

I'm not trying to be confrontational, and the original poster didn't mention a streetable car( I was assuming because i didn't think a builder would ask the question) But I'm just trying to keep it real.....god I wish I could lose a 10th every time I heard someone brag about thier "10 sec" runs

This question has bin answered 2 or 3 times in the past month. Please do a search. The stock turbo will support 400whp and can run at up to 2.3 bar with the right mods done to it! If you want anymore info then PM me.

Chris.

1. He is not running a stock turbo Adam ... He is running the HKS 3037s turbo.
2. He is running that fast in the 1/4 and he has that hp not because of the DYNOFLASH ONLY .... he has an AEM EMS computer tuned by AMS.

We made 404whp and 401 ft lbs of torque .. 100 octane unleaded, AEM EMS setup and alot of boost ..

Pump gas 23 psi ...the car made back to back 385 whp ... The aem frees up about 30 extra whp from any other piggy back / flash / afc out there. .. The guy went consistant 11.7 on 94 octane, stock intercooler as well...
