Is an intercooler upgrade worth it?

I too am thinking about an upgraded IC. Temps here in Vegas get into the 110 plus all summer every day. The car really loses mucho power in that heat compared to 30-40 degree nights all winter. Like 2 different cars. I am hoping a bigger IC would help restore more power for the summer. What do ya think?

It should be listed on all FMIC, and if it's not, i'm sure you can call and ask. Hopefully these vendors know there numbers on these intercoolers. This is something i've been looking at doing for awhile, but it's gonna have to wait until the end of this semester, because my car will remain in texas, while i'll be in CT.

SinCity, you might also want to look at upgrading your Radiator while your at it, it won't help sucking in the cold air like a new FMIC, but it will keep your car running cool all day, which is great too.

My injectors were like $440.00. Since I don't have a clutch, I haven't taken mine to the track.

An intercooler(aftercooler is the proper term, but I won't get into that) can never cool the air to a temperature below ambient air temp. Efficiency would tell you how close to ambient temp it can get the intake air temp based on its temp after being compressed.

Based on your example, you'd need an ambient of 0 degrees(assuming the 150 degrees you're talking about is post compressor).

stock cooler is great and good for about 400bhp, after that its time for a larger one as flow becomes a bit of an issue (i think). the problem is that if you are aming around that marke then you may aswel get one as they are not the most exspencive mod you will ever do and they WILL ONLY HELP. its down to you and what you want to spend your hard earned (or not) on!

You've got the right idea but your example is a little misleading. The intercooler is there to remove heat from the air that has been added by the turbo. The the intercooler's efficiency basically gives an idea of how much of that heat will be removed. For the example above the intercooler will only remove 100 degrees if the before intercooler temp is 150 and the outside ambient temp is 0. But you will never get the temperature after the IC at or below the ambient temperature.

Edit: AutoXer beat me to it

i would only worry about the fmic if you are planning on getting in the 11's dragging or if you do a lot of track racing.
