Gains with DP on stock exhaust??

Then go to the local muffler shop with a rear section flange bought from RRE to have a muffler delete pipe fabbed up (if you are that short on cash). If you have a little more of the green stuff on hand, You can pick up a Megan Racing 3" DP and cat back for less than $500 off of Ebay.

I don't know if Buschur uses stainless flanges on the 2.5" DP or not... It wouldn't surprise me either way. Both it, and the HKS are going to last longer than you want to keep them anyway.
I definitely agree that you will not be able to tell much, if any, difference in power on any of the DP's that are roughly the same size... less thermal coating of course...

Works claims that their 70mm dp is the best size when using the stock turbo. (even better than a 76mm dp) They reccommend a 76mm (3 inch) DP for their upgraded turbo. I've heard that this is a common strategy for many tuner evo's in Japan. (70mm dp with stock turbo)
I doubt, however that any of us would be able to tell the difference between a 70mm and 76mm downpipe, in the real world.

On my 1g DSM, I had a full 2.5" turbo-back w/ the stock 14b turbo and it had neck-snapping torque when the boost hit. I then upgraded to a full 3" turbo-back and lost that neck-snapping torque in exchange for more top end. I also lost a noticeable amount of throttle response. The only difference the 3" exhaust made was above 6k rpm. I later switched from a ported 2g o2 housing to a 3" o2 housing and lost even more throttle response for slightly more top end. The same concept should apply on the EVO.
There's a middle point between sacrificing overall power for better throttle response and driveability. That's what I'm shooting for.
