Well I went to clutchmasters originally. The guy didn't even know anything about my car. Seeing that he was packed I opted to go to my normal mechanic for service. I was originally quoted $250 for a clutch install by clutchmasters. My mechanic said he'd charge a little more, and he didn't think it would be that hard to change the P.O.S stock clutch for a clutch masters stage one clutch. Anyways, he ended up literally having to dissect the car piece by piece. Heck he even had to lower the engine to change the stupid clutch (I guess the transfer case gets in the way, as it is connected to the engine). Unfortunately he broke a transmission seal on the drivers side in the process, and I had to order a part from Mitsubishi. I really felt for my mechanic cause I watched him taking apart the car, and trust me it took him forever just to take off the the transfer case (quite a few pins). Is it normal to go through this ridiculous procedure to change a clutch? If it is I strongly advise everyone to pay for the most durable clutch that they can afford, cause this is a chore. I'm paying like $400 for the install.
P.S. the differential oil was almost completely gone on my car. My car only has 10K miles, and no leaks. I advise everyone to change theirs promptly.

It takes me about 3 hours to do the job. It also helps if you have done it a few times though. I say that 400 is cheap, $350 is really cheap, but you must relate the price to were you live. NY, CA, etc., will be higher.

Stage 1 Clutch Masters on an Evo. You better baby it. Stage 3 was alright on my car but aggresive launches resulted in slippage after a couple hard launches. For every day usage and normal spirited driving it held up fine and it is sitting in storage and in good condition. The Cusco twin carbon has over 40 drag launches(slip method)and is holding fine with no transfer case explosions. Knock on wood. To tell you the truth I am very impressed with how my Transfer case has held up to the abuse i have inflicted on this car. I know it is a matter of time with my abusive ways but my TC has held up fine with this clutch. Also what is all this clutch chatter I hear people complain about. I am not experiencing any clutch chatter. Guess I am lucky for now.

That makes no sense. Where did the oil go then? It doesn't evaporate (at least not enough to disappear after 10K miles). You either do have a leak, had a bad factory fill, or were expecting more than a half a quart to come out of the diff.
i put an act 2600 in mine, first clutch change i've done in a while. you dont' have to dissect the trasfer case, there is a tool i got from mitsubushi, its a slide hammer to take the inner axles out, the ones that go into the trasfer case. once those were out i un bolted the transfer case and kinda wedged it up between the motor and body. the tranny was a biotch to pull off cause its a pull type clutch. i had one hell of a time trying to get the snap ring off. once that was off the tranny fell right out. put the new ACT in and had one hell of a time trying to get the throw out bearing set in the pressure plate, took me four tries. once i got that set everything went back in easy.
i think i need to get a clutch rod extender. ever since i put this clutch in, at high rpm it has one hell of time trying to into 4th and 5th gear. i had mobil 1 in for gear oil after i changed the clutch. i drained that last weekend and put gl5 in. I want to drain that and put in the factory stuff. i have 16,000mi on the car. about 1,500 on the new clutch with about 30 launches on it. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are fine. i've changed the oil 5 times and have had no problems with the car. the transmission is the only thing i'm worried about.

Arggghhhhh are you guys telling me the clutch master stage one clutch is worse then the stock clutch??????????????????? If so please let me know. I'm already going through shock as to how much I am paying for a clutch job. BTW my car is almost totally stock. All it has is a dynoflash, for California crap gas, HKS Hiper Catback exhaust, and a K&N panel filter.
It takes me about 3 hours to do the job.
