Delay valve help
Delay valve help
So this is an aside from my other post about strange acceleration -- and thanks again to everyone for all the feedback. The mechanic I'm taking my IX MR to said that (and I'm trying to remember his exact wording because I'm sure it's important) he would like to remove the delay valve from my clutch assembly.
He said that the delay valve, at high rpms, delays the contact of the clutch surface with the (pressure plate?). As far as I understand, a functioning delay valve will decrease the life of the clutch, because that delay means the clutch is slipping for a smoother shift.
When he told me this, I asked him if that meant that all that shock was going to be transferred to my 'more expensive' drive train -- and he said yes but he didn't seem to be too concerned about it. I guess my question is: Should I be concerned that my sometimes ****ty shifting is going to cause some expensive damage if I let him do this? Is the delay valve more for driving comfort, or more for mechanical protection?
Thanks!

I never heard it called a delay valve before but, yeah, there is a restriction in the slave cylinder. Lots of people have removed it. Will this make a difference in drive train longevity? It depends on what sort of clutch you run and how you drive.
