K&N "Drop-in" not a drop-in?

Just got a K&N drop in air filter element for my evo. Athough it fits in the factory airbox, the rubber flange on the outside (the lip the keeps the filter from dropping in the box) is way too thick. so it is impossible for the top section of the airbox to close w/ the stock clamps. am i doing something wrong or is this thing made for evo7, etc. ? thanks. also does the ralliart drop-in have this same fitment problem?

hey, try turning it the other way. I had the same prob when I got mine. The filter is not a exact square and needs to be positioned the correct way.

Mine dropped right in. K&N part# 33-2105. Got it from AJ USA. Honestly, didn't hear or feel any difference, but people swear by them!

THKFAST, the drop-in won't give you much in performance, nor will it give you better filtration then OEM. the only real benefit it gives you is, you never buy a replacement filter after that. even if you buy a cone filter, the performance benefit is minimal.

mine dropped right in. make sure it isn't upside down and that it is positioned correctly because. keep rotating it 90 degrees to see if it fits. as for differences between that and the oem filter, i can hear the diverter valve more and i felt a tiny (and i do mean tiny) improvement in the top end.

i use the HKS drop in filter replacement, and yes you will feel a difference, just take the top part of the box off and the intake tube that goes to the front end of your car off. You will hear your turbo spooling louder and the factory BOV will wooosh.

-when you say dropped in, can you confirm you were able to re-attach the top cover of the factory airbox, and secure it w/ the stock clamps? you not just sitting it in there and then strapping it to the bottom of the airbox, and then just removing the top half? thanks

tight fit

It is a tight fit, the filter is actually for a mustang or some other older ford car. Just squeeze it on or apply a little oil to the sides.

You have to Lift and pull on the clips to make them lock in place. Start with the back left clip first. You are using filter 33-2105 right?

Is mine the only one that fits perfectly? Its literally Drop-In.

If you do that wouldn't you be sucking hot air in instead of cold air?

Al from Dynoflash documented a 5 to 7 WHP gain on the dyno by just adding the K&N which also yields about the same as a cone style filter. It does flow more air and gives better throttle response. I experimented one day and put back the OEM and felt a decrease in response and just felt bogged down. It may be in my head, but once back to the K&N, the car "woke up" again. It most definitely flows better than stock.

There should be no fitment problems. You have to put it in upside down. The widest part of the filter goes in the box first and the skinnier part is facing you.
