Question EVO Air Intake

Hey guys... I've spent a good hour or so going through all kinds of posts dealing with airintakes to replace the stock airbox on our EVO8. I was planning on getting the HKS RS intake but from what I've been reading it seems that all these aftermarket intakes actually make the EVO perform worse than it does in stock form (boost dropping off, running sluggish etc etc...)

Is this what it actually comes down to? No intake on the EVO just stock airbox? I dont plan on flashing my ECU or using any piggybacks on my EVO... just as is. I think I'm just gonna add an HKS downpipe + HKS TI exhaust (or maybe the GReddy TI)... what do you guys think? Anyone actually recommend an intake for me?

all you need really is a drop in filter. the stock ram style intake box works fine.

If you're not going to tune your car along with getting an intake kit, then you should stick with a drop-in filter like the K&N, Ralliart or HKS. I just had my (then) stock Evo on a dyno and on the last few baseline runs we took out the stock air filter completely ... gained 5whp but the car also ran between 1/2 to 1 point leaner AFR.

I've got a Buschur Cone Filter Kit. It gets better air flow and the sound is very nice. Putting one will remove your air box however.

I put my apexi intake in and I have seen a big increase in air intake temps. Around 10 or so degrees C. Thinking about putting my stock airbox back.

Maybe you should try the apexi intake box, it goes around the filter and keeps if from sucking in hot air.

I do have the box but its impossible to install on the USDM version without moving a certain sensor (looks to be some sort of crash sensor). Its the yellow one by both headlights. I will have to do cutting of the box to get it to work. On top of that, installation was incredibly difficult Maybe I am just a whynar or something

Cool, is the box they sell and entire box, or is the bottom cut out?
