There are directions for ceramic based high temp paint that specify baking it in an oven, your home oven will work although the smell may not be great and this will make the paint last WAY longer. You will want to get the 1500 F stuff.

high temp paint is good as ceramic coating for heat cover?
i have done a project trying to paint the heat shield with high temp paint and in the end, it was a failure. colored paint even with high ceramic content was just not strong enough to last. i tested about 6 types of paint, all promising a certain degree of resistance but unfortunately, these claims are only for intermitten heat. after trying different paints, i realized even the best off the shelf colored paint (even with high ceramic content) will NOT last. one test was actually semi successful, as it did not chip or bubble for a few month but did not last more then 6 month. the only paint that DID have 100% success rate was a super high ceramic paint that was flat black and wasnt really more of a ceramic spray then paint. when dried, the paint was slightly powdery, telling me how resistent it is to melting or chipping.

personally if you want the heat shield painted, i would get it ceramic coated to a shiny gloss and it will last. any fancy color and it will probably not.

I assume that this is the one you would use to port out a stock manifold?

mifesto: It worked on my DSM manifold, but I am sure the EVO is running way hotter, it is good to know someone has tried this. Thanks!

Why did you wrap the DP instead of having it coated like the rest?

I have seen others wrap the downpipe too. It is cheaper to wrap the downpipe and will have very similar results.

I am just not too keen on ceramic coating stainless steel. I know it works OK but I like the thermowrap better for that application...

i got my exhaust manifold jet coated but only for cosmetic purposes. if all i cared is functionality, my wrapped and ceramic black painted manifold radiators was very effective (radiating significantly less heat even after a hard run).

I think if you tried to thermowrap the factory cast mainfold, it would rust very fast, especially with the ventilated hood that lets rain get on the manifold so easily. I do think that thermowrap is more efficient than ceramic at retaining heat though...
