My new ACT unit is arriving tomorrow. My buddy and I will be doing the install. This will be done on ramps and jackstands. I know some of you on here have done it this way and I am wondering are there any little tricks we should know about? We are both mechanically inclined and he has been working on talons since day 1. We are going to try to go through the left fender well to get to it. Advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shane

i hope you plan on dropping evrything on top and the bottom fo the engine bay in the clutch/transmission area. It will be a tought job, but it sounds like your experince will pay off!
Well, its not too hard actually. I've done it on my driveway myself. Once you have the transmission apart, you could just let it rest on the floor, just enough to get to the clutch. REMEMBER THIS!!!!!!! unlike the Talon, you would have to remove the shaft that connects through the transmission and transfer-case with a slide hammer. The transfer-case will not come off without first removing that shaft!!
Now, the next tricky thing to remove is the throw-out bearing. Evo uses a pull type TOB. At the bottom of the transmission bell housing there's a rubber plug. Remove the plug and stick a long screwdriver in, to pry the TOB apart.
Here's how to get it apart, push the clutch fork in the opposite direction untill it clicks. and then your friend under the car with the screwdriver would stick the screwdriver in between the TOB and the clutch and twist/ pry the TOB apart.
I tried my best explaining. Good Luck!

If you are mechanically inclined enough to tackle a clutch install yourself, more power to ya!! I, however, am not. I will be paying a good amount of money to have someone install it for me who has been working on EVO's for atleast 5 years now.
Well here is an update. I took out everything on the right side of the engine bay. Took out radiator, pipes, battery and tray. I took out turbo for more room(had to anyway because I had to remove my manifold to have a bung welded on)this included o2 housing as well, downpipe, also removed bumper, frame connector(one with tow hook). All this took a few hours, tomorrow I will be taking off left front tire, brake and moving caliper out of the way. By the way my ACT is so sweet, can't wait to put this bad boy on. I will try to take some pics for you guys who might be brave enough to try this yourself. So far so good but I haven't tackled the tough part yet
Keep the tips coming, anything would be great. I will try to do a write up on this so we can all take advantage, lord knows we have been waiting for one.

Holy crap! Why did you remove so many things?!! Once you unbolt the transfer case (6 bolts 17mm) you will slide the case as far to the passengers side as possible. This will give you room to remove the 14mm bolt that attaches the tranny to the block and you will also have room to remove a 14mm bolt that holds the rear tranny mount. Good luck with doing it on the floor, I personally would rather pay instead of torturing myself on the floor. Be carefull with the tranny, its alot heavier than the DSM tranny.
I didn't take all that stuff out to do the clutch only. I had to take my exhaust manifold off so I had to take off the o2 housing and downpipe. It is not nescessary but I figured I would keep it off while doing the clutch.
