anyway, think about it...civic = weakass ff car...of course clutch can handle it....
evo though...it has twice as much hp and add to that, its awd...meaning its not DESIGNED to launch...in other words, the strain is heavy on ur clutch and ur drivetrain (meaning ur gonna spend major $$$ on ur clutch and ur tranny if u keep that up)....
Dude, I have no idea when this is going to stop, but it's obvious that the stock clutch has an inherant weakness. Weather or not you minor modify, or keep it stock, the poor quality control put forth by Mitsu north ensures that it will be a crap shoot as to weather your stock car will blow it's clutch in 9K or less, or perhaps a little more, or your full blown 500 whp monster will pull 10 second times at the 1/4 with a stock clutch. Some blow at 5k stock, some blow at 23k modded to 22 PSI, it's nothing but a crap shoot, period. Please don't talk launch, that's BS. I 'v e had numerous high performance cars, pushing way more than stock config, and they handle it like Marines, who haven't got ***** in a year during they're first day in combat fighting soldiers that are on the fat body plan just so they can stay in the service. And please don't bring up driver error, that's just grassping fo air bro. Please, just once and for all, accept that the evo is not the end all be all, and we'll B OK. Everybody's got issues on the earth, and cars don't stand outside the box.

Only problem with clutch is that it seams to engage at different positions of the pedal depending on gear. 1st engages near bottom and 2 & 3 considerably higher up. Makes for strange shifting and extra sliding.
Will this improve with removal of the flow restrictor in the hydraulic line? Any other adjustment that can be made?

Stock clutch will last if you:

1. Don't drag race or ride on the clutch.
2. Got lucky with a good one on there.
3. Stock or slightly above stock HP

i've have to replace my tires, breaks, and rotors from wearing down and still haven't had to replace the clutch at 21k. Never launched the car and i think that is the biggest factor because i beat the hell out of the damn thing everyday.

were they awd? did you launch them all the time? I bet you did, thus your clutch is going to go out pre-maturely. I believe all the peole who ***** abotu the clutch were dropping it constantly. You can do 4-6 launches on the clutch and nothing will happen. Its when you make a habit out of it. I learned on this car and ive ****ing put it through hell and it has 13,000..while its not as great as it use to be, i still consider it pretty good and will last me probably another 5-15k miles and probably even more.

I agree with you 100%. My clutch lasted 25K miles but I launched it several times and got it to smell bad . Also, if you have much more HP than stock, the clutch wont handle it well. However, if one follows GOKOU's recommendations, the clutch will last a long time even with more power.

What I found out was that the stock cluch itself is not bad, but the stock pressure plate appears to be on the weak side. Even after my clutch got to slipping so bad I had to change it, the clutch disk itself still looks good and has lots of friction material left. The problem is that the flywheel is glazed. All this would indicate a weak pressure plate.....

If anybody is replacing the clutch and expects to continue driving as usual, I would strongly suggest upgrading the whole enchilada, otherwise you'll end up with the same situation in a short time....

The evo clutch is not that bad. It has a 2200lbs pressure plate and the disk has copper fibers in it opposed to nylon fiber that other OE clutches have. It's the restrictor in the clutch slave cyl that is giving the evo clutch a bad rap.
