Read before installing AEM cam gears!

I recently installed HKS 272 cams and the new AEM Tru-time cam gears. The gears are well made and now have 5 bolts but after recently having my car tuned I was told that the advance and retard labels are backwards! Just thought I should share this info!

Craig

Well I just figured out where the confusion came from. The Vishnu gears have the marks on the outer gear with the teeth and the AEM gears have the marks on the inner part of the gear. This means that on the Vishnu gear the left side of 0 is Retard but on the AEM gear it would be on the right side. Easy mistake, looks like they are correct after all, sorry guys!

Did you install the intake gear on the exhaust cam and vice-versa?

That shouldn't matter as both cams still spin the same way. Do our engines spin clockwise or counterclockwise?

LOL, I have to see how one timing chain can drive two cams in opposite directions when wrapped around the top of both cam gears!

I just read in the manual in the timing belt section to see which way our engine rotates. It’s clockwise. So the AEM cam gear is labeled backwards.

Maybe they're made for the Eclipse engine?

I don't have a digital camera right now but so I can't post pics. The picture of the AEM gear above is not for the EVO. My gears are labeled the other way, A is on the left of TDC and R is on the right. Is this correct? Most other gears simply have marks but no labels so I don't have anything to compare these to. Like I said, I was told by a local shop that they're backwards.

Thanks,
Craig

Evos engine turns clockwise if you are facing the gears. Backwards would = advance aiming counterclockwise and vice versa for the retarding of the cams.
