Tuning for RoadRacing - This could save you thousands

greatness!
I think once they find out the how hot pre- i/c temps are
(even at peak compressor efficiency), they'll realize how important
it is to tune conservatively. The compressor is a torch
also keep timing conservative because heat soak is a killer
the ambient temp and the temp of the charge going in
is never consistent

Engine Basics: Detonation and Pre-Ignition
An interesting discussion on detonation and pre-ignition theory,

well my philosophy is for a streetable daily driven monster and occassional track car. I aim for decent power with the stock turbo but tune consideratively and use race gas as much as possible. I have crappy 91 octane in CA, so I use 1.5-2 gallons per tank of 100 octane - is this a good mixture? I have upgraded fuel system - injectors, fuel pump. My engine is controlled by the Apex Power FC which monitors and graphs a bunch of characteristics, I also have digital gauges to monitor boost settings, etc. I knock a lot, but it seems to go away after I use race gas mixture. Does anyone know how you can tell if you have knock correction?

Very good thread, just what I have been looking for. Are these suggestions for anyone running track days, stock or modified? Is there an approach for both? Thanks for any help

very good tip...
i wont name any specific tuner but some really push the tune to very lean for quick bursts of speed but the margin of safety is small... i personally like to get mine tuned for example to 20 psi, then run 19 psi have that extra safety.... i also plan to go with pure rubbing alchohol in the intercooler spray during track days and ofcourse race gas or atleast 94 octane

Uhh, don't put alcohol in the intercooler sprayer unless you want to see flames. You shouldn't even be using the sprayer on track. I wouldn't even use water injection on track. Just get the car tuned by someone that actually roadraces. And I don't mean 5 laps at 7/10ths. I mean get it tuned by one someone that runs or races an Evo or DSM on track.

My car was tuned by Buschur Racing, if you talk to your tuner they should have some idea of the differences between a daily driver/drag tune and a track tune. He asked me to send me my MAP and almostly instantly told me why it blew. Get someone who is knowledgable and they'll be able to tune for any type of fuel and conditions.

Keep in mind that the Xede uses the factory ECU which has integrated knock control. Although knock control won't save a horrible tune, I highly doubt your Xede map is unsafe as Shiv does have an understanding of Road Racing.
