EVO clutch install

I hope this is not redundant.

I am installing an EVO clutch on Friday and I have the service manual and experience doing two 1G AWD cars. Any tips or any links to a write-up on this subject would be great. Thanks and I did use the search function with little direct luck.

Yeah... there's not much on here.. It's pretty damned tricky.. I'm doing one right now... had to stop and continue tomorrow.. can't believe noone's done a write up on this yet.. it seems the clutch is the first thing to go on these cars.. I guess it must have something to do with the evo owners... i guess a lot of them just have the $$ to have a shop do it for em..

once you get the axles out, you will need a slide hammer to remove the half shaft from the tranny on the drivers side. it is held in by internal snap rings. thread a bolt into the half shaft and then use the slide hammer to pop it loose. dont go crazy - it isnt that hard to get it out.

i would also get a set of ratcheting wrenches. it was a real time saver for some of the harder to reach spots, like the rear mount bracket.

the real ***** is getting the TOB to release. i worked on it for like 2 hours. walked away, came back and first try it popped loose.

good luck

Well, its not too hard actually. I've done it on my driveway myself. Once you have the transmission apart, you could just let it rest on the floor, just enough to get to the clutch. REMEMBER THIS!!!!!!! unlike the Talon, you would have to remove the shaft that connects through the transmission and transfer-case with a slide hammer. The transfer-case will not come off without first removing that shaft!!
Now, the next tricky thing to remove is the throw-out bearing. Evo uses a pull type TOB. At the bottom of the transmission bell housing there's a rubber plug. Remove the plug and stick a long screwdriver in, to pry the TOB apart.
Here's how to get it apart, push the clutch fork in the opposite direction untill it clicks. and then your friend under the car with the screwdriver would stick the screwdriver in between the TOB and the clutch and twist/ pry the TOB apart.
I tried my best explaining. Good Luck!

Look at the way it locks in place. This is a pull type TOB. You have to push the TOB towards the clutch all the way and then hold it there. Then get a long screwdriver and get between the TOB and clutch and just twist the screwdriver. you will see a silver collar between the TOB and clutch. you want to pry between the collar and the TOB.
