tonight i was runnin with my friend (sti) around a bunch of back roads tonight and this was by far the hardest i have EVER ran my car and afterwards we both popped the hoods and both or our turbos were glowing like night sticks....overall we both had alot of fun. and for the mods, my friend know peps in high places and we closed off the streets for about 30 minutes to run around. but it was cool seeing the turbo glow....i love my car

 

yep... they'll do that... be sure to keep the car running afterwards, keeping the oil flowing, if you don't have a turbo timer of course...

 

I wish I knew people in high places that can do that for me.

was your exhaust manifold glowing too? I can't see how the turbo could glow before the exhaust manifold does.

 

what does it look like whne it glows? any pics?

 

heat a paper clip with a cigar lighter for 30 seconds... similar red / yellow bright glow.

 

Run your car hard, under boost for a little bit. Like say a canyon run. Stop pull over, pop the hood... look at the exhaust housing of the turbo.

Last time I checked, your exhaust manifold wasn't spinning at a bajillion rotations per minute

 

To chime in, i've seen my maifold glow quite nicely after backroad raids, and thats looking down at it thru the open hood. Heat shield is in place so the glow comes out from between the openings in it. Pretty like a campfire, i tell ya! I didnt look from outside the grilles in front, next time i'll look there. But at least on my bone-stock day-old car, the turbo is kindo blocked by a lotta crizap.

 

I just saw mine glowing tonite after a few full boost pulls. Nice orange glow like a pumpkin. Just in time for Halloween.

 

Time to do this and get video of it...tomorrow night?
