Denso IW22 verses IW24

Anybody log performance between denso iw22 and iw24.
I read silver surfers test on stock verse iw24 but there was no mention of testing iw22 against iw24.Could the improvements have been from a better brand rather then the heat range in the stock test.

Hi,

Here's my experience from the past week.

First, I installed the Denso IW24 a few months back. Gap seemed to be about .028 and they are 1 heat range colder than stock.

I was hoping they would help lower knock readings I was getting with my SAFCII, yes, I know it's not that accurate, but I didn't like seeing the occasional knock readings.

The IW24 did help with knock readings, and the car ran well esp at first, but I was also getting an intermittent hesitation or blip at ~3500 and ~4500 rpm at WOT in the higher gears (3rd-5th).

I thought this was fuel cut, and more recently thought it was the P0XX misfire. I have gotten a CEL a few times. I've been reading on the P0XX dealer reflash and contemplating what to do.

Anyway, last Sunday I decided to take a look at my Denso IW24 plugs, and they looked ok. I tried to close the gap a little, and ended up breaking a plug, so I threw the stockers back in. I was very pleasantly surprised when I took the car out and the hiccup was gone. Also, my car seemed to be "flat" lately, like the ecu was pulling timing. I thought it was because I was getting used to the power, but now I realize it probably really was pulling timing, due to misfire. The car pulls great now, and I pull noticeably harder in the upper RPM ranges with smooth power through the mid range.

I noticed slightly higher knock readings on the SAFCII at first, but I've tweaked setting (richened slightly) and they seem ok.

I think my Densos were fouled and/or the gap was too large for my setup. I did install a Walbro after the plus, which may have fouled them...

So, I'm very happy with how my car is running right now. I don't think plugs will make that much of a difference one way or another as long as they don't foul and the gap is right. I like the iridiums despite the controversy and will probably get a replacement set of stockers when the time comes (as long as it's not the full dealer retail)

Take care,

FB

yeah, I think I'm getting that with the NGK's that I put in. I believe they are BPR8IX. At first the car felt real nice when I put them in, but 3000 miles later, it feels that my car is not pulling as strong up top anymore. I'm going to go back to stock and see how it feels.
