Well, i just got back from the dealer and picked up some of the LSD SAE90 oil posted from another thread, the DiaQueen stuff for 46.00 and tax for a 4 liter jug. Will be replacing the Redline 75w90 that i put in the x-fer case and diff.

Hey guys,

I've been using Redline GL-4 stuff in the transaxle and NEO Synthetic RHD GL-5 in the tc and rear diff.

I used to have pretty bad decel noise when the car was new, but after changing driveline fluids at ~3k miles and again at 15k miles, the noise is pretty much gone. Or maybe I don't hear it with my exhaust, heh.

A lot of WRX guys have had good luck with NEO and I used it in my wife's WRX with great results.

Did Redline discontinue the GL-4 stuff? I remember seeing a post on this, but haven't followed up since I haven't had to change it. I will do the fluids again at 30k (I'm at 23k now). If there's no more redline GL-4, I will probably try the NEO HD oil which is supposed to work for a GL-4 application. Another Evolutionm member had posted good results with the NEO HD in the transaxle... It is spendy though...

Thoughts?

I know this is an old thread, but Royal purple sells their Max Gear in a GL-5 SAE 90 specification, exactly what Mitsu recommends(for both the transfer case and rear diff). I just ordered some yesterday. The only problem is that it's only avalible in 5 gallon pails for $143.00. Cheaper than I new transfer case though.

I have a copy of a TSB, which says you can use also a 75w-90 GL5 oil in the transfer case and rear diff. I have the Mobil 1 75w-90 Gl-5 in those 2 and have not had any problems. It costs $6/qt. I think you need just one qt for the two.

Mobil 1 75W90 is GL5 rated which is fine for the transfer case.

I've been using Mobil1 75W90 in the rear diff (+ lsd friction modifier) and in the transfer case for 20K miles with no trouble. I recently switched to GM Synchromesh in the main gearbox (from the stock GL-4) and it shifts way smoother now. I'm really satisfied with my current driveline fluid setup.

Motor - M1
Transaxle - GM synchromesh
TC - RedLine Heavy Shockproof
Rear - M1

Absolutely no problems. The car drives like "butter." I can get away w/ not having to double clutch under some circumstances where before I'd make the TC protest...
