2G rods and pistons in Evo??

I was told a few days ago that the DSM 2G rods and pistons are the same as, or will work in the Evo's 4G63. If this is so then why are a bunch of shops selling Evo specific rods and pistons? Does anyone know?

They will not work. The valve reliefs won't match. Both engines rotate clockwise, but the intake and exhaust valve locations are flipped. The valves and reliefs are not the same size.

As far as I know rods will work but pistons won't, and the reason for that is as described above ^

You use the 2G 22mm piston pin, but do you use the pistons or are they custom made for you? And this may be a stupid question, if so then just bare with me, but why could you not just turn the piston around 180 degree's? I do not think that it would know the difference and then the reliefs would be in the correct place. The reason I ask is that every now and then I see an add on eBay offering a rod and piston kit for around $700 including rings, bearings ect. Just curious.

we use standard off the shelf pistons from JE or Arias. When I mentioned 22mm is because the evo and the 2g dsm both are 22mm, the first gen is 21mm.

I was told the valve relief argument before but I don't beleive it anymore. A friend has an Evo III that blew up and on the advice of his mechanic they installed Evo VII pistons. I thought it would not work because of the valve releifs being on opposite sides, but it has been up and running for a few weeks now without any problems (i.e. piston to valve contact).

The piston wrist pins are not in the exact centre of the piston. If you spin them around, the offset will be on the wrong side.
