broken driveshaft
broken driveshaft
Hey guys today I've encountered a huge problem with my evo I was driving down the road when I heard a loud sound that sounded like a metal piece fell from under my car I kept driving carefully and the car felt find until I can to a light and made a left turn as soon as I turned the wheel I felt the right side tire loose like my lung nuts where loose so I quicky decided to pull over to see what was wrong I made a left trun and before i could cross the street my driveshaft broke and my tire slammed into my fender and dragged my tire to a stop. I was wondering if any one has had that problem before. I am so mad because the warranty on the evo sucks. I'm scared that the dealership wont cover that but I feel they should because I was only driving about 30mph when that happend. If anyone could help with this problem I would appreciate it.
Driveshaft or Axle?
sounds like you are describing an axle problem. The driveshaft connects the rear dif to the transfercase and runs down the centerline of the car. On the warranty have you raced it or launched it hard drifted it etc.? Things can break before they "fall off at 30 mph".

Havent heard of anyone having that problem.
Sounds like something more than an axle problem. The shock and spring would keep it from slamming into the fender if im not mistaken. The the lug nuts snap off or something ? Have any pics ?
Hell, so long as you're on the stock suspension and if you're under warranty, I dont see why you should have a problem with this. (so long as any blatent "warranty killin'"aftermarket parts are within view. )

agreed does sound like an axle drive shaft wouldn't have slamed your wheel into your car but rather taken away power to the wheels and probably made some really loud banging noises as it spun out of control. and no I have never heard of this happening before on any modded or stock evo's

if the tire hit the bodywork, there is 100% no doubt that the problem is NOT the axle. The front driveshaft holds no weight of the car, it only rotates the wheel.
something broke in the suspension. front hub, strut, spring, control arm.

hey guys my evo is stuck in the dealership, I'm so mad they are giving me lots of BS, they are telling me that they are not going to cover the damages, because they say that I must have hit a rock or a hole in the road that cause the damage. Thats BS all I did was drive the car like every other day. I think I would have felt a rock or hole in the middle of the road, by the way that must have been a huge rock to cause that damage, they quoted me $1300.00 for parts and labor without body damage. I took lots of pictures I'll try to post them soon, Keep you guys posted it's gonna get ugly.
I would stay in their office and plea with them until they honor your warranty. Just remain calm and stay cool. The second you burst your top the less likely they are to help you.
Inisit on speaking with the district manager and if worse comes to worse, head over to the sales department and speak with a manager there or make a scene saying that Mitsubishi does not honor their warranties
You should not need to pay a DIME for this so long as you're under warranty.
