The rain and our hoods...

What do you guys do with your hoods in the rain?

When I take my car through a car wash, my EGT probe dances around, so I think either the connector or the probe is getting water damaged.

I'm afraid this will happen in the rain.

What do you guys with EGT gauges, or aftermarket headers do?

Thanks

are you serious?? No water comes in there even if you are parked? I dont own an EVO yet but I was curious about that. If you are park and then there is a downpour or even snow, would the water seep down through the gaps? sorry bout the newbie Q

Thanks

1.) Why are you taking you Evo through a car wash???
2.) That's interesting.

I have an EGT probe also, but I always wash it myself so I've never experienced your condition. But that's pretty interesting, I'll have to keep an eye on my EGT gauge when there's a downpour or snow the next time.

I would assume the bung on the EGT probe should be sealed tight enough so that water isn't getting through, or it's just the exhaust manifold getting pounded by water. Should be normal.

Oh, and water DOES get in, I drove my car for the day, parked it back home & started spraying it down with water to wash it, and steam started coming out of the vents.

water does get through the vents, but because of the louvres just below the screen water rolls towards the exhaust manifold. Ive had my evo since march 03 and rain hasn't been a problem....

If water touching your EGT probe is causing problems, you might have a some wiring issues. The wires and plug for the EGT probe should be sealed, so a little water shouldn't hurt anything.

No, I don't have any wiring issues. I'm not talking about a little water, I'm talking about rain.

water instantly evaporates when it enters those vents.

The EGT probe has an exposed wire at the tip. You do not want to get water on it. If your bung is properly installed on your exhaust manifold, it should seal and not let any water in even if you pour a bucket of water on it. So it should be fine in the rain.

Wink

Dozens of thunderstorms, snowstorms, ice storms and car washes. Worst thing to hit the hood is bird s**t, which turned out to be corrosive.
Not worth your worry.
