important: sick of acd/ayc discussion
Thats just what im saying,,,,mitsu should put all those gadgets in the car to keep its reputation as that unique road rocket. I like ayc cause im researching it for my project as an intelligent system and it is a pretty neat and fascinating example. Ive never driven a subaru cause there werent many in Trinidad. Id like to know if the sti is fast but most ppl told me that the evo was faster.
BY THE WAY.......IF U WANNA TALK ABOUT MAINTENANCE,, THE BIG PROBLEM ISNT AYC, ,,,,,,, its the clutch grabbing all that torque.. IF mistsu doesnt fix this problem , u will almost certainly have to get a copper clutch system.,......You could launch the 6 at 6000 rpm and hardly smell the clutch....Do that with the 7!!!! no way!!!!!!...........

Mr.AWD & Hotstepper....... Great info guys!!!!!!!!
Hey, I just made it back from the Miami Auto show:
Mitsubishi reps said that Evo 8 will be here in February, with 270 hp, and no AYC. They could not comment about ACD for some reason. But said that base price around 28G !!!!!!!!
I've noticed in the past that manufacturers often hold back some of the "goodies" on early models, so that when demand and sales start dropping off, they give you more features to bring sales back up.
I won't be surprised if
does it with the Evo
Subaru is doing it with the STi.

What the **** are you guys talking about?

Seriously, we agreed that we dont censor swearwords but only illegal statements such as racism or revisionnist theories and ****.
After all, why wouldnt you be allowed to say "****, someone stole my car
" when that's what you would be saying in real life?Of course, that doesnt mean you should post swearwords. If threads start resembling gansta rap song lyrics, I will delete them.
Back on the ACD / AYC topic. You guys seem to glorify these systems, when in fact they are more of a safety feature than a performance nhancement...

Of course, the systems that we see in the EVO 7 is nowhere close to the one in the WRC Lancer, but it is still better than not have it at all! And the good thing is that electronics (at least the modern one) can be reprogrammed and it can work much better and closer for the particular needs of a driver. If you have the best mechanical LSD in there, you need to take it out in order to modify it. And, even if that wouldn't be the case, you are limited to the one setup at the time and no mater how hard you try, that is it!
Hmmmm...

AYC is like ESP on an Audi, with the exception that it doesnt cut engine power off, but keeps the rear from sliding. No sideways action with AYC. Safer, but not more fun. Why do you think I took mine out?
As for the ACD, that could be an improvement, but in fact has been transformed into a safety feature: You can change it from neutral with a slight understeer bias (TARMAC) to more understeer (GRAVEL) and SUBARU
ie a lot of understeer (SNOW). That's good for snow or sand and gravel not to spin / crash loosing the back, but not for the track, where you may like a 40 / 60 setup for powerdrifting
However, the ACD clutches out the center diff when you pull the handbrake, so handbrake turns are great.

As you say, you can reprogram the electronics, or should we say Mitsubishi can. The AYC ECU that you can get as an aftermarket product (K2 or so) improves the handling.

They are of course nothing like the stock ACD/AYC combo, but once you have it, at least there is an option to adjust them the way you want them. If new EVO doesn't get any of those gadgets, my Talon might get part of the active setup over the next few winters. We will see!

I do believe that the factory setup is meant to be for the safer driving and tarmac option might be a bit too tight for the more serious racer.
I will spend one more reason for sure with the mechanical diffs in my car and try to improve the settings on my shocks. They do have enough adjustment and more tuning might help as well. The main problem that I am facing here is that the current setup is inheritably pushy and it is not easy to find the best possible balance, since things change a lot and I can't adjust those diffs for every single race. Adjusting the rebound setting is a challenge enough when switching from the asphalt to the concrete surface. That is why I am planning on using electronically controlled setup, which should help!

I am not sure that you can separate those two system and put one in the front of the other.
