I think so, mainly because people put HID kits in headlight housings that aren't designed for them, and light is scattered everywhere. I've had an H4 kit in my '01 Maxima for three years. The reflectors still give the abrupt cutoff to the light, I angled them slightly lower, and I haven't gotten a ticket in 3 years. It probably helps that '02 and up Maximas have HIDs standard. Because my stock headlight bulbs are dual-filament, I did lose high-beams, and I have to swap the stock bulbs back in when I get my car inspected, but that only takes 5 minutes.

that's cool. my friends was asking me about it yesterday and I told him they kinda of outlawed the aftermarket HID's. I guess I can tell him different now. He's gonna be happy. He has a 95 Civic CX hatch that he putting a RSX type-s swap in. that little car is gonna be bad azz. and fast as hell. I bet he'll give me a run on the interstate even when I get my exhaust. hopefully once I get a flash or some kinda piggy back that want be an issue.

Even if they are or aren't outlawed, most of the places that I used to look at them don't sell them anymore. That link above was the first I've seen in a while that claims to still offer them.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. I notice they hint around it but it was to my understanding that all OEMs used Phillips or Osram Sylvania setups and that the color temps were around the 5000K-6200K mark. All that higher temp stuff that's really blue or purple is actually pointless - it "looks cool" but it doesn't perform as well. I still think most of that stuff will get you a ticket.

Note the disclaimer at the bottom of the Product description page:

"* Due to recent regulatory developments, DOT/NHTSA will penalize the use of HID Retrofit system on highway or public road in USA. Please contact us for additional information."
