Lightbulb loss of handling in evo?

what up everyone, I took my car to the dealership along with some Toyo Proxes 4 tires to be mounted and asked to have an alignment done...they tell me that they aligned it and everything and the alignment originally was off..i'm like ok cool, i drive off and out of curiosity i start slaloming in my neighborhood to see if the handling has changed and it seems like the response is slower than stock..isn't an alignment supposed to increase the handling instead of worsening it? I doubt the tires are the problem in this case as the slaloming i was doing was subtle..any suggestions, I really have no knowledge in this field. thanks!

did you check the tire pressures (before and after)? chalk your sidewalls to see how much they're rolling over?

i doubt the proxes' sidewalls are as stiff as the advans' - that helps our response a lot.

One of the features not listed in the sales brochure is that it comes with a bad allignment from the factory Seriously though mine was way out of allignment new and if you do a search you will see that many, many others were to. I would give your tires a little while to break in, at least a couple thousand miles and you should see an improvement.

I think its the tires you had installed. When i had the proxes installed on mine, it felt a lot more sluggish. Real slow to respond. I learned to deal with it. That teaches me to buy tires other that the Yokohama's/

Alignment can make a dramatic difference on how the car is handling, but I wouldnt rule the tires out as a possible suspect. Have your alignment check out by another shop and compare both spec sheets.

Toyo Proxes 4 = cheap tires. Stock Advans handle way better.

I vote for tires here as well. Going from the stock Advans to Conti Extreme Contacts resulted in less responsive steering and handling for me. The Advan sidewalls are VERY stiff in comparision to most tires, and as a result you get much more input and feedback to/from the road.

Watching the tire guy try to get the Advans off the wheel was somewhat entertaining. He used many four letter words in the process :-)

No worries -- what you are experiencing is more than likely "normal".

I have the next step up of toyo tires (T1-S) and even they aren't near as good as the stock tires as far as grip and sidewall. the sidwall on toyo tires is much weaker and will fold a lot easier than the stock yoko's

the loss of handling is FOR SURE THE TIRES.

Tires.. there isn't much that's going to compare to the Advans as far as steering response. .

I got S-03's and they don't even compare.. still very happy with this tire Try adding a few lbs of pressure to the tires. I think i'm running around 32psi.

Also give the tires a lil time to break in. Most tires will stiffen up a bit after a few hundred miles.

Even the t1s' are too mushy for sharp handling...
