got an EVO MR today!! aiya!!!!
well i was supposed to go up to Tahoe today to do some snowboarding but since they had chain controls on Hwy 88 and i don't have winter tires on my S4 i ended up going to check out a used Evo. the car had already been sold, so i went to another dealership to see what they had.
lo and behold they had a gang of MRs just sitting there! i didn't know they were here yet and a few hours later i was driving off in a nice, shiney graphite grey Evo MR! oh my! i think i'll be wearing a stupid grin on my face for quite awhile....

nope, i still have the S4. i have 112K miles on that car so i knew i wouldn't get much from the dealer for it. the car is still in pretty much perfect shape, it hasn't given me any problems and i think it's the best all around car i've driven. i'm either going to just keep it and make it my road trip to Tahoe/daily car or i might let my brother in-law use it since he helped me buy it.

ok, so i just put 43 miles on the car cruising around mostly on the street with a little freeway action in there too. within the first 5 miles of driving i had a guy in a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 rev on me at a light (i just laughed to myself) and a guy in an M3 ask me when i got the car. he gave me the thumbs up which surprised me.
first impressions: the suspension on this car feels exactly how i wish my S4 felt. it's definitely firm, but not brutally so. the steering is somehow both light and precise without feeling darty. i feared that turbo lag might seem more pronounced since i'm used to the S4, but it doesn't seem bad. it definitely jumps to life around 3500 rpm, but it gets up to that point so quickly that it doesn't seem laggy. nice! at first i had the stereo on, which sounds decent enough, but then i turned it off so i could just listen to the incredible exhaust note. the idle tone is so nice with a little bit of rumble to it and on-boost it sounds evil!
the clutch took me a little while to get used to. this is my first japanese car though and it seems that most japanese cars i've driven have clutches that engage differently than german cars. the pedals though are pretty dang perfect for heel-toe action!
when i was thinking of getting a used Evo i had a big list of parts i wanted to buy, but i think i'll be able to hold off on that for awhile. one thing i do want to change is the dash display. it seems really dim and the Ralliart white guage unit just looks so nice.
i'll be in japan in december so maybe that will be a christmas present for the car.
i also wish they had angled the auxillary guages so you could actually sort of see them. they're pretty useless where they are.
the only other thing i'd like to do is get an Evo 7 front end on there. the triangle badge front end just looks too Pontiac or something for me. if the Cwest Evo 7 front end didn't require you to remove the bumper beam, i'd get that in a second! seeing that front end on the Vivid Racing Evo actually made me start considering the Evo much more seriously. well i guess i'm in now!!

Congrats, that is a very nice car. There were a couple of them at the dealer when I bought my lancer two days ago. Although I'm not quite sure I agree with the whole "it looks like a Pontiac" argument.... besides, no Pontiac could ever be the complete package that an Evolution - especially an MR - is.
