Kinda hesitant about getting evo

ive always wanted an evo and i was happy as hell when they came to the states. im actually hoping i will be able to get a white gsr by next year. but now im reading all these posts about warranty issues, clutch problems (but im sure this is dependant on drivers), and engine reliability. Dont get me wrong, i love the evo. love the way it turns, looks, accelerates, etc. but now im afraid about getting it because of issues like the warranty and how reliable the engine is The car hasnt been out long enough yet to see how reliable it is, but i think it should be pretty reliable, but i dunno. Its not like i will always do hard launches when i drive. but i guess a couple of quick launches here and there to have fun i think thats what "spirited driving" is. im just afraid of something like the motor blowing, or the transmission falling out, or rods this and that as i have read and how mitsu isnt really good at keeping warranties. so i just wanted to know, so far, if anyone knows the reliability history on the past evos? i kno that srt-4's have horrible reliability (not like i would get one anyway) but they also have turbos. BUT also that, i kno those dodge engines werent meant for turbos. so i guess my main issue is the reliability of the car and how **** can be about warranties. Im sure i wont be needing the warranty every time i drive, but just in case something happens when i do a simple fast acceleration and my warranty. you know, have the warranty there to back me up and not worry. sorry for long post btw and long explanation that prob repeated itself many times. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Engine has been around for a long time this is after all the 8th model of the Evo. Tranny is pretty good and I haven't heard hardly any complaints about that.

Only common problems with the Evo are the Clutch and Mitsu voiding warrentees. If you plan on modding your car at all then don't count on a warrentee or if you track/race your car your warrentee is gone but if you aren't into either of these things then Mitsu should be forced to honoring it.

As far as the clutch goes just plan on replacing it with something a little stronger sometime in the near future from when you buy your car. I have 20,000 miles on mine and I'm still running on the stock clutch.

Look with the EVO you know exactly what you are getting into, you know about the sorry *** dealership services (at most locations) and clutch issues (engine issues??? all cars have a couple of lemons running around, but never really heard of the 4G63T being a big issue other than creating gobs of extra power ). With that, you also know you get awesome performance and a smile from ear to ear everytime you sit in the car. So the point is you know what you are getting into and if you take care of your car it shouldn't become major issues. If you can't take alittle bad with the great amount of good, then I suggest you go out and buy a R32 or S4 cuz you know that Volkswagen/Audi just ooze out reliability

Yeah the engine is great and can get pushed very hard. It is the same motor that has been used on earlier EVO's, the only thing that has been changed is the internals to make it more stronger. As far as your warrentee goes it's all on the dealer that your with. If you do get one PLEASE DON'T LET FAMILY OR FRIENDS TEST YOUR CAR OUT! I let my brother borrow my car to go to a house party one night, and the next morning my clutch was slipping and almost gone around 5000 miles. Plus I had to drive alittle over a hundred miles to get my car to my dealer even thou there was a dealer 20-30 miles away. The closest dealers not far from my parents and where i was at didn't want to replace my clutch, but the one down from my house told me that they would fix it with no problems since it's under my warrentee. Alot of people out there wasn't as lucky as me and had pay outta pocket or buy a new performance clutch. So if you plan on launching buy a racing clutch or let your car roll alittle before gunning it in a race. Well good luck on your choice, as for me I love my EVO.

Thumbs up

yea, thanks for the info hearing these kinda makes me a little more confident about the engine. im not really looking for a super-crazy-reliable engine like a honda or something, but just something that wont break down in a year like the srt-4s i guess i was just worried about having a few very quick accelerations and having mitsubishi saying, "sorry, youve been abusing your engine" or something. even tho im not sure where the line is divided between abusing and spirited driving, except the fact of launching it everytime i reach 0 mph but im a responsible driver, so all should be good. thanks again for info
