Just drove an MR today.
It's a nice car. I'd love to have that 6 spd tranny in my car. But I really wasn't impressed with it. I even got to drive it hard somewhat. Well having an EVO8 already, I don't see any real reason to jump up to one. If you don't have an EVO and are willing to pony up the extra cash, sure. Go for it then. If you have an EVO8, keep it and mod it out like you would the MR.
The dealership manager is so used to seeing me around, he threw me the keys and asked me to drive it so I'd "fall in love with the car" and trade up. After driving, I thought maybe I'd see if the 6Spd Tranny would bolt up to my 03. And why not see if I can get those springs or something better. Change the shocks to something great (not coil overs). Also go with a standalone with a very nice all garret setup from the header to the downpipe.
Does anyone think the MR is totally worth trading up? Am I just being stupid in thinking this way?

my buddy is selling his 03 gsr for an mr. he has the basic bolt on's and he says he is not going to mod his mr. we both road race and he is full of ****. if he is not going to mod his mr when my moded 03 gsr destroys his $35k car at the track he is going to buy the same mods he bought for his gsr(which he is including with the sale). i'm a label ***** who likes to have the best stuff. but if i had my choice i would get the rs. the mr is awesome but i cannot see trading up for a sixth gear that doesn't help me road racing. in my biased opinion the evo is the best car out there and i love all evo's but the 03 evo gsr is going to go down like the grand national even more so than the sti as a classic collector. sorry for my drunkin rant but i love my car. thanks.
are you kidding the MR is great.. However I do see what your saying about tradding up not being a good idea. If I owned an 03 then I wouldnt bother trading up. But the MR in the one day I have owned it feels so much better than the 03 stander EVO that my dad has. The responce seems to dwarf it (stock for stock) though I cant figure out why. The six speed tranny is ULTRA smooth and im still breaking the MR in so I havent stomped on it but I dont think I will see a bit of difference in speed its just the smoothness of the car that makes me drool. When I say smoothness im talking about the way she drives.
One way to discribe how it made me feel
"Euphoric"

I test drove an MR yesterday, and all I can say is that the MR isn't worth the upgrade from a previous year EVO.
The suspension is 10% better, the 6-speed is sloppy and it doesn't feel terribly faster than a stock car nor does it feel 'lighter' or more nimble with the lighter components.
I guess I've been spoiled with Vishnu stage 1+ and Ohlins suspension, but I think the real bargain is to buy an 05 GSR and mod it.
That's my opinion of the MR,
Steve

i'm not sure if this is correct but, the 05 gsr can be added on with the options to make it the mr, the only option that can't be added on is the 6 speed. i think you can save alot of money and get the 05 gsr or you are paying whatever much more for the 6 speed.
I agree. No reason to trade for a MR if you already have a GSR. Whatever you like on the MR, you can swap to your GSR, and save money
So far I keep hearing the 6 speed in the MR sucks compared to the 5 speed in the GSR/RS.

Not to bash. But when you figure out how to swap the aluminum roof from the MR to the GSR let me know.
SOme one on this thread replied to my topic and said they have never raced before and they dropped a 13.8 on the 1/4....My first time was this past saturday and i launched not too hard and got ON EVERY gear and ran 14.5....the second i dropped the clutch from 5200 and ran a 13.9......soo accordin to this person...the MR is quiker...
