under 400whp do I still need AEM EMS?
I dont plan on going over 400whp in the future so do you think it is necessary to get the AEM for my car? Beside AEM what other ECU would you recommend if I were to keep my stock turbo with under 400whp?
If you're keeping the stock turbo, it doesn't make much sense to upgrade to an AEM unless you're willing to sacrifice constant tuning headaches and driveability issues for those last few hp.
Need? No. 400WHP might be a stretch, but you won't need a full standalone ECU until you've made some pretty big modifications. Other choices, such as a piggyback or reflash can probably get you there -- it depends on what you choose to do. There will come a point at which reflashing and/or a piggyback won't be able to cope with the changes.
for drivability, yes,
for money wise, there are always ecu-flash, piggyback to support big turbo,
i have not seen stock turbo (evo8 USDM) with any mods (not sure about NOS) to go over 400whp on four wheels dyno,
but Kcevo, Chad did make 411whp on AMS chicago on two wheels dyno w/ AEM EMS.

I was thinking the same - Xede or the UTEC. They can be had for $800 or $1200 respectively I believe.
Overall though, it's gonna be pretty hard to get 400whp (like 500-550hp at the crank) on the stock turbo. That's going to have to be a C16 mix with some pretty aggressive AFR's, and some serious high-lift probably 272 type cams. Be careful!

just go the dyno post on the forum, and read people's mods and their dyno number,
you should be getting pretty good idea.
hope this helps,

I've hit 350whp wiht the UTEC It was a mix of 1 gallon of 91 and 5 gallons of 103 Octane.

I own an AEM EMS powered car, tuned twice professionally.
Not only do you not need the AEM EMS, you will probaly never need it. Give Andrew at dynoformance a call. Get his input. The Exede from Vishnu uses the coldstart tune and drivability (perfect manners) of the stock ECU and can run stage two and three- 400 to 500 wheel horse power cars flawlessly. I'm not against the AEM EMS. It works great. But it is just far too powerful a toy with far too much work required for most of us average joes. If you are tuning wizard, you might love it. But, if you build a car with a certain set of mods and leave it that way for a long time, and want great drivability, go with the Xede. I know several guys who were in love with all the features of the AEM EMS...but became dis-enchanted at its lack of intelligence verses the stock ECU. Retuning all the time is a pain. Just my two cents.
