If you don't have any friends or family, stick with the Z06.

But if you decide to get an Evo this is what you will and can have.
-Four doors with room for 5.
-Can drive pretty fast in the rain without much worries about traction. Z06?
-With some mods, it will handle just as well as Z06 but still have four doors.
-With engine mods, it could be 11 sec or faster and still carry 5 people.
-And when you pull on a V8 with a four banger, it makes you feel really good.
-But when a V8 beats you, you have a good excuse, I only have half the engine.

 

Unless your looking to mod, tune, and spend alot of time with your car. Dont get the Evo, now granted, when mine is finished I will destroy your vette. But, Im also spending a small fortune and alot of time on it.

Although, regardless of alot of people here. Personally if I had a vette I would bump it up to around 900hp and use it on the drag strip or street and make some cash off idiots.

Besides, its not like your gonna run into may 500+ whp evo's on the road.

 

The new C6 kicks A$$ and is really the car they should have came with 5 years ago. If you were asking to trade something like that then I would whole heartedly say NO. Still, I will never, ever in my entire life buy anything made by GM. Maybe a Saab but nothing made by GM, doesn't matter if it came with 800whp from the factory. I have owned 2 fords, 1 pontiac, 3 hondas accords 94-03, and now this EVO. To tell you the truth, I might not ever buy another EVO again either, unless the EVO X is just so much better.

My suggestion is just stick with the C5 for 3 more years and you will see the birth of the EVO X, new STI, Skyline, maybe even the new Supra. Make your decision then. I know I am looking forward to it.

i never understand these threads. do i get a evo, or do i keep my z06. is there only 2 cars in the world? if your looking for something fast how about a MKIV supra? you can hook one of those up and it will blow the doors off any of the 500 hp evos on the highway (but keep in mind the supras wont have the launch hte evo does, so the 1/4 is somewhat slow). **** my porsche is 17 years old and at half the price of the evo new, i can get it to 400hp. with some internal engine work, easily into the 500 range. i don't really understand why you picked these two cars because they are completely different beasts. if money is of little issue with you (which it appears so), get a merecedes. 11.7 stock 1/4 for the S600. and it is 4 doors with a hella nice interior. then tune it or get the AMG version. anyway my point is, why are you asking other people which car should you get? go test drive then a decide for yourself.

 

You're spoiled by the torque of that big V8, especially out of the dig. My other "car" is a Ford Lightning with gobs of torque (450 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm). In comparison my moderately modified Evo (~350WHP/312 lb-ft @ 4,000) feels slow off the line despite the fact that it will do a drama-free 0-60 in ~4.3 seconds without dumping the clutch at 5,000 rpm. Man, once my Evo is up above the boost threshold (3,500-4,000rpm) it walks all over the Lightning. It's almost sportbike quick.

The performance of the Evo is there, it's just not fully developed. A "diamond" in the rough...

What are you going to use the Evo for? Drag strip? Road course? Crusing?

 

hmm stock evo to a 381rwhp vette, well duh... your vette is going to make anything fell slow. But its like everyone elese said. There diff cars if your wanting stratight lines and the raw orgasmic power of muscle then keep what you got, because that is a nut buster.
On the other othere hand you can build a 10 sec daily drivin evo too. Just remember evos are fickle and from what I hear, untill you get into massive hp with them they will still feel slow as your flying down a track lol.

 

I too have an S4 currently. Its rated at 320hp/356+ft/lb of torque (theoretically). Im thinking of switching over to EVO as well because I just want a better handling car. To me, all those muscle dont do much if you can use it safely, esp on turns.

IMO you are so wrong. The Z06 is better performing everywhere except in the snow.

The Z06 outhandles, out accelerates, out brakes the Evo. Also has a higher top speed. Of course, you can't put 4 people in a Z06 and you have to pay almost double to own one.

I am not knocking the Evo (I love mine) but the Z06 is a great car as well. The z06 is a purpose built sports car and has all the advantages and disadvantages of one. The Evo is a modified econobox and has all the advantages and disadvantages of one.

What the original poster probably sees as slow is the fact that the Evo is a DOG below 3000 rpm. Below 3K my stock integra is faster and tegs are known to have no torque at low rpms. Rev it up and the Evo accelerates hard.

I wouldn't trade an evo for the z06! that's nuts. Z06 not only handles better but also is a lot faster stock compared to evo stock.

Just the potential for the z06 is limitless. I will not trade the z06 for the evo, unless you want something fast that could haul groceries and the family.

Maybe I am just stupid but any car that can cruise at 1500 rpm better get like 80 mpg IMO.

I dont know...... Z06, Evo, STi are all totaly different cars with totaly different personalitys. I can put my 8mo old son plus a whole lot of other crap in an Evo. All I can put in the Vette is a putter and my laptop

 

remember this: its a 2.0L, and can you drive your vette in winter? no.

What turns out is that all these cool Evo owners are actually trying to HELP this guy. I bet he has egg on his face. He even lost interest and stopped posting because he wasn't catching anything from his flame bait...notice when no one took his "Evo is slower than my z06" bait, he started in on the "sti is faster" bit, and then moved on to his "S4 is sik" bit...

This thread actually "niced" him to death...

Personally, anybody asking about trading in a Z06 for an evo should know WHY they are doing it - otherwise, they are just attempting to incite some flames...or they are just plain STUPID...
