Speed Trapped in VA - the "Police" state!
I had my radar detector off, unplugged and sitting in my passenger seat and still got a ticket for that and speeding.
I wouldn't fight it, it could just as well waste your time, since noone wins on speeding in VA, let alone the Radar detector.

Va cops are hardcore, but that is what the state is so nice
I'd gladly trade that for what we have down here in FL, I think either 7 or 10 people have been shot in west palm beach in the last week.

Radar detectors are illegal in VA and you are lucky that he did not take it from you right there. Just swallow your looses and pay the ticket. I know that you were with the traffic but fighting this ticket won’t get anywhere.
hey how did the car do im driveing from tampa to annapolis in a month and was thinking about a rental whould you do it again or get a rental

He claimed that I was doing 80 on 65 zone and then issues two tickets for speeding and having a radar detector. My reponse to him was that the portion of road was descending hill and that I was following the flow of traffic and the device was merely for electronic compass direction. No luck, this green rookie cop states that I can show up at his court in hicksville -VA. mad:
I am definetly planning to contest the the charge of speeding on the grounds of profiling! There were other cars speeding behind me and I am sure he targeted my red import sports car!
Any advise would be appreciated and anyone know if speeding points transfer over from VA to Maryland?
thx

once you enter VA state line a black board says: Radar detectors are illegal in VA.
BTW the are illegal in DC too

VA is known to be a **** state (no joke) cops here in fairfax are pain in the a$$. If you get pulled over in about 5 min you will see 3 police cars behind you for broken tail light with their hand on their guns. Last time I was passing by a check point in fairoaks and he asked me about 5 questions. where you going? where from? why? did you drink? Step out the vehicle? All that because I am driving at 2 AM going to friend’s house.

plus, cops can use judgment to make calls - and if they tag someone behind you who is driving over the speed limit, that means you were definitly over since you're ahead of them. and if they chose to get you then that's their choice.

Now in court, its first, your word against his word. That means unless you have a 'good' witness its guilty until proven innocent. Fighting speeding tickets is hard ... and requires training. I'd call the city or county prosecutor and try to get off / fine reduced / no-points on record or ask for a "plea-in-abeyance." That's just my personal 'non-legal' opinion, but its helped some friends of mine in the past. You can explain, a 'little' about your case to the prosecutor, but remember he may try to use 'your' arguments against you in court. Some things I would bring up are you were IN a group of cars, you DIDN'T pass anybody, and it took a flippin' 10 min. for the cop to catch up. So ... you weren't apparently a priority.
In all, I encourage standing up for you consitutional rights of being 'innocent' until proven guilty. That means sometimes taking that 1/2 day off of work, and travelling to represent yourself. If enough people went to court over bogus, non-accident involved tickets, I think the whole 'revenue' system would realign itself to 'really' serving the public, instead of being crapped on my overzealous, self-righteous cops and courthouses.

Good Luck,

lol when they are being nice and they cant give you a ticket they end up giving illegal exhaust ticket... Got that with my stock exhaust.
ive been through VA and west VA 3 times in the past 4 months, always had my radar detector proudly in my window. theyll never know u have it unless they see it, or u give away that u have one. aka, slamming on the breaks the minute a signal comes on the radar, but eh, i hope u beat the ticket. im trying to get a loophole in MD that will allow my appeal to be heard even though its been over a year since i got found guilty of a 5 point ticket, so far so good, everythings been submitted to the judge, and were trying to work out a deal with the DA for community service in exchange for all 5 points.... by the way, this ticket was before i had the evo, lol... and before the radar detector.... POS eclipse GT...
Bottom line is VA sucks for car enthusiasts... that don't own domestics.
Fight it as hard as you can afford to do. Delay the court date a few times. Maybe the cop won't show. Basically... you have to do anything you can to try and get the stakes in your favor. It's going to be tough... but good luck!

yeh, the vg-2 mode helps but that means, you have to take the radar detector off the window and hide it. Otherwise, even the radar detector is turned off, they'll just assume you turned it off.
HIDE it! or better yet, don't go through DC and VA. There are so many midle road cop hide outs, it's nuts.
