A group of streetbikes was pulling in and out of the parking lot, revving up their motors and crap, trying to intimidate us. A 'Beach cop comes by on a bike...like 3 of them roll in within 5 mintues. They tell us we need to leave, because we were causing a scene. I ask him if they would rather harass us than go catch the people who are REALLY causing the scene, then I hold up my tasty Butterfinger Blizzard like I am proposing a toast.
He said "you can leave, or I can write you some ticket for all of the illegal crap you have on your car."
"Officer, you shouldn't say that. Profanity isn't allowed on the VA Beach boardwalk (true law here)."
He turns to my car and starts saying things like "Illegal exhaust. Illegal tail lights. Illegal wing."
I interjected with words like "Stock. Stock. Stock."
He looked back at me like I was kidding. I asked him if he wanted to see the owners manual, or perhaps some Mitsubishi promotional literature. Then they got a call on the radio. As they were all leaving, he looked at me and said "stay out of trouble".....
Ok, guy. I'll do that. Thanks for being a tool.
I can understand the good intentions of the city by trying to clean up and get away from the street racer crap....But seriously....

That's awesome! I hate it when cops have nothing better to do than harrass people. I am going to be out of VA in 3 years max because of this. It's just plain BS...

Just got off the phone w/ several VA lawyers. Looks like it's gonna cost me $500 to $1k in hopes of dropping the charges to "Defective Equipment".
Points don't transfer across to MD but insurance companies don't care and they'll assess their own on my record. So, I'll be off the VA court!
VA needs the $$$, they're running state deficit, I'm told.

First off, go to court, and you can pead traffic school in VA. I actually had a reckless driving in VA for 21 over (King George County). I went to court, and the judge reduced it to speeding, and allowed traffic school.
Secondly, Radar (microwave electro-magnetic radiation) could give a **** less if you have shiny stuff on your car, and can reflect off of pretty much anything on your car. Especially with todays hypersensetive police sets. I know a bit about microwave propagation. I worked on the worlds most advanced radar system for a number of years (AN/SPY-1D).
The directional control is correct however. A po po piggy gets a speed reading, then he will look for the fastest car in the pack. That is who he will pull over.
Good luck. VA cops are *******s and faciasts. I hate those ****** fockers with a passion. You should move to Alabama. It isn't known as the "hammer-down state" for nothing! The don't hassle mods, and don't have enough cops to patrol the roads. I love it. I went from California, where I grew up and was hassled daily by the pigs about my cars, to here. I love it!
Good luck!

Theres an online test to take for anyone in VA to take before going to court. Its like a drivers education test. I think it costs like 30 bucks or something like that. But if you have a reckless or some other high ticket it helps to get them reduced. Almost all the lawyers in VA tell you to take it. Also sometimes you can go and get your speedo recalabrated at a local shop and they can say that it was off aswell.

Would it help my case by taking a lawyer to court or should I just plead guilty and point to my clean record w/ a sad look?
Don't want to blow $1k if I don't have to!

Join the National Motorists Association (NMA). They are an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of driving enthusiasts. It's nothing like the AAA.
The NMA will loan any member an entire library of books on how to fight tickets, including radar tickets, for free. And if you fight your ticket in court and lose, NMA has a program that will pay your fine for you!
Individual membership is $35 per year and well worth it, just for the amusing and informative quarterly newsletter. I have been a member for 20 years.
Go to www.motorists.org to check them out.
