Letter for Mitsubishi
Hey if your so hot on this almighty lancer evolution why don't you put your name on the list for the fq-400? You claim that Mitsu should build this vehicle for 30-35K yet they just went through an excercise where they designed a monster evo and look what the price tag ended up at!!!! I'm sorry but the evolution is built to compete in a certain price range and demographic and thats not going to change anytime soon. If Mitsu is going to build some 400hp monster supercar then in my opinion they should do it on an entirely new platform altogether.......think greatly revised 3000gt.
Here's another idea. Move to England and buy the MR400. Then you will be mostly satisfied. Until then I will continue to repeat myself....YOU WILL NEVER GET THE SAME CARS IN THE U.S. THAT THOSE IN EUROPE AND JAPAN DRIVE!!!

Major areas of griping here are related to Mitsu's service and warrenty shortcomings, not the car itself. If it's any consolation, I would prolly prefer a 7 to an 8 or possibly even 9.
Oh man, here we go. People, don't be starting rumors about what the Evo 9 or 10 will have since frankly, none of us know. Just like before the MR came out and everyone was speculating about it's build. All you're going to do is cause a lot of arguments and heartache.
You have the worst english skills of any man alive.
Ex:How much cost a FQ340/FQ400? Maybe I import one for me.
How about, How much does a FQ340/400 cost? Maybe i'll import one for myself.
That has been your grammar lesson for the day. Go out and use your new skills on the world!

Upping the displacement of a-n-y motor is a major feat. Look at the motor done by RnR or RRE (I think) ... It was a 4G94 (2.4L) that needed some pretty extensive work done to get the 'nice' features already built into the 4G63. Oil squirters, rods, pistons, etc ...
If I remember right the 4G63 is a 1.8L bored out to a 2.0L. Once you start to redesign a new block, and realign the bearing locations and crank configuration / design, etc ... you REALLY get into a pickle and it becomes a 'new' design anyways.
My personal opinion is probably to put in a MIVEC-type head on the good ol' 4G63, and have a low-rpm cam profile that will 'give' back some lower-end torque.

Mattsteg45 How much DOES your english class cost?
The objective of this forum is to exchange information about our Evos not to criticize the foreingn Evo's owners. Moderator correct me if I'm wrong. What Do you think about write in Portuguese, spanish or french? I could write perfectly for you.
I saw in another topic one guy who asked for help with his brake pads.. with an english worse than mine. Instead of criticize his english I tried to help him.
I never thought that this topic could hurt some Evo's owners ego, just because I mentioned STI. Just for your information, my poor english never was criticized when I was inside a F-body forum...
If you do not like my topic, ask for the moderator to close or get out of it, instead of criticize me.

Man, this is thread is ironic. Lancer EVOLUTION owners flaming someone for opening a discussion about ideas for the future EVOLUTION of the car. This reminds of my friend at work who owns an almost completely stock 1988 5.0 Ford Mustang. Everyone thought that car was the shiznit in 1988 – it probably was. He still thinks it’s the shiznit and that it will spank my moderately modified Evo (but won’t take it to track to race me – of course). Maybe he’s is trapped in 1988. I hope you all like 2004. It sounds like some of you may be here for a while.
I’m with you k270kmh for the most part. I have some differing opinions on what the evolution process should be, but the thread topic you started is legitimate. The 4g63 is the shiznit for 2004, tried and never denied for many years, but it must evolve. Otherwise the Lancer Evolution will one day be just a great thing of the past. Maybe some of some of you guys would happy if the Evo I never changed to the Evo II. That’s where we would be if the Evo never evolved.

1- Raise the engine displacement to 2.5 liter. Follow Subaru STI. Why? Better low end torque and broader torque curve, More top end power.
2- Variable camshafts exhaust and intake. Better driveability, better low end torque, better top end power, better mid range power, fuel economy.
3- Variable intake manifold: Better low end torque, similar results as variable camshafts.
4- Bilstein shocks standard in all EVO models.
5- A completely new High tech clutch: Soft, hold 450hp, NO noisy, strong.
6- New exhaust desing: No needs to spend US500 in a new exhaust system
7- 3000lbs maximum
8- Special kit developed by Ralliart for those unsatisfied with standard power levels. I mean POWER KIT = No need to tune the car. Plug and Play stuff.
9- Turbo gauge standard in all EVO models
10- Standard power = 350HP. Not so difficult for Mitsubishi. Power kit = 450HP
Mitsubishi has to run fast and improve the EVO without ask more than 30K. I'm seeing many companies improving their cars and putting high amount of horsepower. Wait for a 4.0Liter Nissan 350Z maybe a 400Z, SLK350, RS3 V6 bi-turbo, Acura 300hp, Volvo S40R 340hp, Porsche Boxter S 290hp, BMW 330 performance package with 280Hp, New M3 V8 etc etc etc
If you agree or disagree or have another things to add please feel free to reply!

Here are my ideas for Mitsubishi:
1. More displacement sounds good. We don’t have a tax increase for motors above a 2.0L displacement like other parts of the world. (Isn’t that what drives the WRC 2.0L limit?) Spool up a bigger turbo. Get more low end torque. Just don’t go too far and cause a bad weight increase. I’ll take our 2.0 over the Subaru 2.5 anyday anywhere, but the Subaru engine has many down falls outside of displacement. My only fear is that Mitsubishi will replace the 4g63 with an engine that is not as mod friendly or have as much potential.
2. Sounds good. Isn’t that the rumor for the Evo IX.
3. I guess.
4. No. I say put the cheapest shocks on you can make. Just keep good mounting points. I’ll be stripping those off for coilovers anyway. So, save me the money.
5. Yes, put a better clutch in. If you need to put in a stronger drivetrain to support it, then do it. But make it a loud twin plate, I love my loud twin plate.
6. I think the exhaust should be made restrictive only on one small segment to pass emissions. This way one only has to replace one small segment to get a nice free flowing exhaust.
7. Weight – do the best you can to reduce it, just don’t break our wallet with it. I’d say less frills and more trills to keep the price down. Maybe I lean more the an Evo RS type philosophy. I’d hate for the Evo to get a luxury type price tag.
8. An option for more power under warranty is a nice idea like in the UK, but then again who cares about a warranty you have rob, steal, strongarm, and kill to get honored. How about an option to reduce or eliminate the warranty to save the owners money, since you don’t want to honor it anyway.
9. Sounds good.
10. More power. Who does not want more power? 271hp is cool because I know the 4g63 can make tons more power without getting too extravagant with mods, and a lower stock hp rating keeps the insurance lower. The most important thing is to keep a good engine like the 4g63 in the car to allow for more power at the owner’s leisure.
And furthermore, a 6-speed for all models sounds good, simply because the current gap between the 4th and 5th gears on the 5-speed is no good. Price increase is inevitable on any car, but remember the true glory on an Evo it that it is a $30,000 supercar contender. Make it a $50,000 supercar contender and a BMW M3 and C6 Corvette start to become real competition in my mind.
Can we get this tread on track?
The last thing we want is for the Evo to follow the paths of the 300ZX and Supra, increasing in price until it's too high for the U.S. market and is discontinued. Then, years later, it will come back as a larger displacement NA engine stuck in a heavy car.
