Depending on the car company, certain export models go through cold weather testing in the NVH(noise vibration harshness) area for the US market... As an example the Pontiac GTO thats made for Australia has different plastic interior panel part#'s due to the creaking in cold temps here in the USDM test mules. GM N.V.H. engineers made Holden(GM Australia) reformulate some of the interior plastics before importing the car in '03. I doubt Mitsu made a change there to suit the US market. Mitsu had a hard enough time budget wise paying for NHSTA requirements on USDM cars (crashed/beamed/bumpered) to worry about interior quality/complaints on the first few runs. Hell, they were riding bankruptcy looking for a buyer when the '03's were coming over on ships

1.) No remote trunk release.
2.) No gas cap hanger.

BTW... I dissagree with anyone that says girls don't like Evos.

That 100% true, but Mistubishi has done all of their Evo testing (since Evo II testing in '92) at their dedicated Okazaki track facility outide of Nagoya, Japan. Winter temperatures dip into the 20's but the yearly average is closer to 55 degrees. It's not Antarctica, but it isn't Palm Springs either. Evos love that kind of weather.

I know you can do that, I hang mine over the gas filler door.
My old car had a hanger, so I got used to it.

I don't have much to complain about, I knew what I was buying... No regrets.
