I'm sorry, but Chad is right. Ask Dynoformance or Shiv. Most stock '03 Evos were dynoing between 190 to 200 whp on a DD dyno. WRXes dyno around 165 IIRC on those dynos. There were many threads on this when the Evo first came out.

YUP! 100% correct!
but kinda sucks when you see low numbers from DD dyno... thats why I like dynapack it makes me happy with high numbers

when did I say anything about the cars are gonna produce the same numbers. My very first post on here I stated that they made about 205whp + or - . then my nest post that was a response to your post. also stated that the whp veries from car to car. I was just stating that it wasn't gonna be 35whp like you said. when your tring to make I a point. It's kinda stupid to exaggerate what your saying. It looks bad on your part. I know understand that your where just making an example with what you had to say.

i wasn't racing, i simply accelerated normally to the speed limit, it's just that my friend's car hit the speed limit later than me

MR is only 88lbs heavier than the RS! With about every option included. Not much of a difference.

gear ratios

2005 evo specs:
** 5 speed * 6 speed * % difference with final drive
1st 2.928 ** 2.909 ** 6 spd 0.5% lower gearing
*** 33.4% ** 33.2%
2nd 1.950 ** 1.944 ** 6 spd 0.7% lower
*** 27.8% ** 26.2%
3rd 1.407 ** 1.434 ** 6 spd 3.1% lower
*** 26.7% ** 23.3%
4th 1.031 ** 1.100 ** 6 spd 8.0% lower
*** 30.2% ** 21.1%
5th 0.720 ** 0.868 ** 6 spd 22% lower
******** 20.2%
6th ------- ** 0.693 ** 6 spd 6th 2.6% higher than 5spd 5th
***
final 4.529 ** 4.583 ** 1.2 % difference

by lower I mean greater gear reduction thus a lower gear.
At 7000 rpm in 5th 5speed, 6th 6 spd would be at ~6818 rpm.
at 7000 rpm in 3rd 6 speed, 3rd 5 spd would be at ~6783 rpm.
At150 mph in 5th 5spd, the 6th 6spd at the same rpm would be traveling 153.9mph. This doesn't mean that the 6spd would be faster that would depend on your power level.

Has anyone noticed that most of the tuner Evos from Japan that we read about in mags use the five speed and not the six. Hmmm... makes you think

I bought a regular 05 Evo because it has the combination of features and price that I wanted. If it's slower then an RS because it weighs more and also slower then an MR because of the gearing, it's OK with me.

I think the three models are very close in most real life situations...

Conclusion-

The differences are too close to matter. Get which one suits your needs and mod it if you want to go faster. 'Nough said.

I read in a thread that Motor Trend is going to test the 05 evo, rs and mr in it's next issue as a comparison test. If this is true we will all have our answers.

I heard that too. I think the RS will win in just about every category except creature comforts and in-cabin noise. It's about 100lbs lighter...which may not sounds like a lot...but it's about the weight of a tank of gas. I know for damn sure my car feels a helluva lot faster at 1/4 tank of gas than a full tank.
