Grand Turismo Led to Evo Introduction to US?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...rtscar_game_dc

" Having marketed the past seven Lancer Evolution models in Japan alone, Mitsubishi Motors has said the sports sedan will debut in the U.S. early next year.

There's no doubt that Gran Turismo played a huge role in our decision to launch the Lancer Evolution in the United States," said Takashi Kiuchi, a product relations official at Mitsubishi.

"The car wouldn't have attracted as much attention as it has in the United States without the game." "

Excuse the forceful language, but this guy is an idiot! If this is true, then Mitsubishi shouldn't spend another dime on winning FIA rally championships but should, instead, send a free version of Gran Turismo to each licensed US male driver under 40. It would be cheaper and more effective.

And, BTW, who among you playing Gran Turismo can afford a $30K car?

Clue: It's the 30+ guys (who don't play Gran Turismo but have the $$$) that you need to attract.

ME!!!

TVR has also acknowledged Gran Turismo for creating product awareness that has led to higher sales. Now, let's ask this question again! How many people playing Gran Turismo can afford a $100,000 plus car? According to TVR, enough to boost sales.

Riding my motorcycle and didn't modify it because i'm too much of a wimp to push it to it's potential.

Like dragonball z obviously.

I'm the same person. Doesn't mean hobbies have to change when ppl get older. Just more responsibility. I'm probably one of few whom gave up their M3 for an evo.

Well, rallying isn't popular in the U.S. so your sarcastic comment would actually work. They could not have not been rallying at all for all the U.S. market cares. Gran Turismo did alot. It's mentioned in nearly every U.S. review or preview of that car. It was through that game that made me want the car also. I first played Gran Turismo like 5 years ago. I'm 30 now and hell's yes I can afford it and am buying it.

I wanted the car in a jackie chan movie. Playing the game only lead to me wanting to buy it. Im no where near thirty and i have enough for the Evolution. Im sure there are plenty of older people who play video games(the ones who never stopped being a kid and make alot of money)

oh didn't even see reds post.....right on man. Good movie. Well, the evo made that movie.

Because of Gran Turismo I found out about the EVO, and how cool it is. Because of Gran Turismo I fell in love GT racing, and I watch when I can on the Speed Chanel.

i totally agree with that article..i think the Gran Turismo games launched my interest in sports cars. i got to know a lot more after playing ALL THREE of the Gran Turismo series lol. And being the Japanese guy that i am, i went to visit my relatives in japan and saw these cars and were just amazed..that just set my interests.
