Just yesterday I received a few spec sheets that came from a fellow tech that returned from EVO training in Jersey. The weight is 3268 for the model without sunroof and about another 40 lbs. extra for the sunroof model. I dont have access to a scanner otherwise I would show them. Hp is 271 with torque of 273 lbs. Im happy with the specs but dissapointed in the weight. Its a heavy one alright!!
I will be going to speak personally to him one of these days on my lunch break. From what I heard they actually worked on the car (im not sure if it was a 7 or an 8, although I cant see them using a 7). I will post any extra info I can.

I still think it's a difference between "curb weight" and "dry weight". Japan uses dry weight I think and we use curb weight, which means fully loaded with fuel/oil/coolant/etc.
Well, curb weight is a good bit closer to effective and actual weight while driving so it seems like a better number to go with than dry weight. Nobody's going to be driving a fluidless car. Yes it'll up the poundage, but at least it accurately reflects the weight you'll be driving with when you're tearin' up the road.
Japanese use dry weight specs when it comes to motorcycles (because there's a constant war with bike weights), but i've never heard of dry weight for a car. A buddy of mine checked his type-R 's weight on a scale and it was 25 lbs heavier than factory specs- he had 17" wheels. Its still a heavy car for not being that big at all.

The snow, tarmac, and gravel led light are missing! Anyways, i have no idea why it said lancer instead of evolution on the dash. Hopfully it's just an upgraded OZ. lancer pic and they will surprise us with a dash with ACD when it arrives.
edit: i guess it's possible to have AYC but no ACD?

If this is the correct "curb weight", then we're looking at a car with similar weight to the Nissan 350Z (3250) and the BMW 330i (3285).
Sounds like the car out the door will have similar power/weight as the 350z.
Of course, acceleration is a completely different matter - gearing and the differentials are going to matter much more for the vaunted 1/4 mile and 0-60 times.
But most importantly, this car is turbocharged - easily upgraded for those willing to depart from stock. Think of it as buying a 350Z with the opportunity to add on 40hp or so with a fistful of dollars.
The Evolution may not be a Z06 killer out of the gate. It's certainly going to edge out the WRX (60 lb/ft of torque means much more grunt, not to mention better gearing and more advanced AWD, not to mention quality and finish), edge out the BMW 3-series (certainly in performance, probably very close in handling, losing some ground in quality and finish). I'd be happy performance wise if this car competes with the e46 M3 - 13.3 in the 1/4 mile and 4.8 0-60. If I can get that level of performance (I have been very happy with my e46 M3) for $30k instead of $50k. Not to mention the ability to tune the Evolution which just doesn't exist on the new M3.
My $0.02 - we're going to be very happy with this car. It might be a little heavier than we want, it might not come from the factory with the HP/TQ we want. But from the factory it's going to be an amazing car for the money, and with a little work (continuing the tradition of the turbo Eclipse, the Supra, the 300zx TT, etc) the car will be a screamer.
I have the faith in
- this car will be everything I want it to be. A street-legal race-bred machine capable of outperforming the cars in its class (in handling, braking, and acceleration) with a reasonable pricetag, with ample opportunity for aftermarket tuning to turn the performer into a supserstar.

If EVO comes without a fancy active drivetrain, what edge is going to have compare to those other cars? Quality of ride? Quality of the interior? Styling? Performance?
I am afraid that none of the above are going to be an EVOs strong selling points and I can see potential buyers to go with the different brands, just because they have more to after.
So, besides few of the hard core enthusiasts that want a great platform for the racing only, I don't see much of anything for the average Joe Schmo. Unfortunately, the second ones are the ones that make money!
Mr. AWD
You make some good points MRAWD. If the new Evo is going to be no better of a performer than a G35 Coupe or 350Z or BMW 330Ci, then I don't think it's going to be a big seller. Especially when these other cars offer more creature comforts and a reasonable price tag.
I am hoping that the Evo is more in line with the performance of the 911, BMW M3, and a C5 Vette.
Let's hope the weight is more around 3000 lbs and will be the performance car we all hope for.

Someone please enlighten me on why this supposed weight is too much. How can an AWD four door car not be this heavy? In my trusty dusty '99 Product Knowledge manual it lists the curb weight of a '99 Eclipse GSX manual as...3270lbs.
