Swap '03 GSR for '05 RS? - Wife Problems
LETS BRAINSTORM!
I already have a sweet '03 Evo VII, but I want to swap it out for an '05 RS so I can get the front LSD, ACD, fresh clutch, fresh tires, aluminum roof and so on... Basically I see it as the ultimate auto-X Evo, and that's my new addiction (see left).
How do I convince my wife that I should go upside down on a new car without HID, power windows, power locks?
Anyone have any idea if how much I will suffer on the financing? I want to hear from a few of you guys that did this!
She thinks I'm insane but I know you guys all understand. Let's hear some ideas!

just get the RS in the same color, tell your wife that you simply dewinged/downgraded your car, and a new mod made you get rid of the HID, powerlocks and power windows. or you can just get a kit for hte windows/locks/HID and she'll be none-the-wiser.
buy it, blindfold her, bring her out to the car and say "happy birthday, honey!" explain it as a simple misunderstanding.
as far as how much of a hit you'll be taking, the price drop on what kind of deal you can get from a dealership next year will be greater in proportion to the price drop on your current '03, imo. RS's don't sell that well it would seem. wait a few months and see what your local dealership is willing to do for you. there's also the brand loyalty discounts and whatnot.

My wife is all for me getting a more low key car. She's happy I wanna ditch the loud SRT-4 and it big ol' basket handle spoiler. The Evo RS is a pretty good sleeper. I haven't told her that it doesn't have vanity mirrors yet though...gulp.
Maybe tell her that the RS is a limited edition so there's a good chance it will hold its value pretty well. You could also tell her that you "promise" not to mod it. Yeah. That one's BS but it sounds good. If you've ever got any speeding tickets maybe tell her the RS looks like a regular Lancer so it attracts minimal attention from police and boy racer types.

tell her " listen woman, this is my decision and I'm going to do it and you're gonna stand behind my decision, because I'm your man and you're my woman".
Or, buy her something nice and while she's on romance high, tell her or suade her.

hmmm, just add up those high maintenance items you sighted then compare the saving offsets to the cost of new car:
clutch = 2k
tires = 2k
brk pads = 300 ...
wow, you come out ahead by getting the RS
ok, if all else fails bring out the big gun...a dozen roses in your RS!!!

just tell her the truth and she will understand. Women tend to really want to please us if we're on our best behavior
I swapped two cars within 8 months (don't ask). In the beginning I said to her, hey cars are my hobby and I'm pretty much obsessed with them. She thanked me for being honest and when the times came for me to switch car, I just said to her "honey I'm bored with my current car and would liek to trade it for a new one." keep in mind though I did have to prove to her that my montlhy payments would stay the same and that whatever deposited that I needed to make sure that happens would come out of my 2k a month allowance.

tires = 120 each = 500 shipped and installed <---245-40-17series dunlop race Rs that can be driven in the street
brk pads = 230 <-- ferrodo 2500 front and rear.
total cost = $1730 not enough to convince her.
