Unhappy Evo deal in Wantagh Mitsu on LI, NY

They want $500 deposit and "price to be determined". When asked what does the deposit get me, the reply was the chance to choose a color.

The sales guy said the deposit is refundable but would only put down "REF" on the paper. I don't think so! They can kiss my M3's 4 exhaust tips!

I would have been #5. They claim they are getting "3 to 4" Evo7 a MONTH!

I said really??? I guess by the sixth month, you'll have a bunch sitting on the lot with the way the economy is going.

The guy also asked me if I wanted the Evo 7 in an automatic?!

Sounds like a crappy dealer to deal with. I'm still skeptical of any deposits before the official announcement. I've seen too many dealers talking out their ***.

I went to my dealer to put in a deposit, but the General Manager would not take it until Mitsubishi delivers official details to the dealer, like availability and pricing.
I would be skeptical of any dealer who does otherwise.

This nice thing is they are going to guarantee me first in line, MSRP and full refund for any reason, and in writing.

TearItUpSports:

How the heck did you you work out MSRP? No dealer in the NW will even consider MSRP.

Those conditions are just their policy in this sort of thing. They will sell it for MSRP whatever that is. It's one of those dealers that sells most every car for 300 under MSRP and does not negotiate price. I would not buy other cars from them because I would get a better deal elsewhere if I haggle. In this case though, MSRP is just fine by me.
I'm pretty confident because they are also a Nissan dealer and are doing the same thing on the Z.

dude

i called manhasset mitsu, the guy on the phone said the EVO is coming, but that they aren't taking deposits till they know the whole story. Then i called Smithtown Mitsu, and teh salesman said "sure, make a deposit, i will call u back in 1hr after i talk to my manager" well 48hrs and no call yet. LI dealers are pretty in the dark imo.

Wow !!!
Might as well get a Lancer they have pilling on the lot right now. 2.0 liter 125 horsie and some OZ wheels. Yeah, those are cool with automatic.

I checked out North Phoenix, AZ Mitsu dealer about Lancer Evo.
They said "yeah, we got Lancer". So I asked them "is it turbo, AWD, wings, big brakes ..etc", and they replied, "well you can get after market product, but it will void your warranty."

Other thing that kinna odd. After the WRX has been out for a while. I start seeing them pilling also - any color you want, any option you want.
In Scottsdale, AZ dealer they have puh-lenty of them. Nobody is buying, but no used one either.

Actually the ONLY time I saw a WRX is about 3 weeks ago.
But of course, at this time, all WRX delaer are begging to someone to take one and move them off the lot.

Anyway. It is not right to get ANY japanese cars at MSRP price. Although this car is a beast and powerfull, although you kept in garage all week, but sad thing is that they depreciate. The Evo is never design to be a classic. So, DONT buy MSRP. Just be patient, wait a while. Let those people who has deep pockets get first. There will be plenty of LanEvo for everybody. Plus at this rate the economy goes, it wont be long for dealers to be nice and give you a GREAT deal on one.

Heh, as a matter of fact, I have pre-ordered my Evo 7. A dealer in Rockville, MD. I didn't need any money down, he just has a list. If I decline to buy the car he will just give it to the next person on the list.
I asked him for a Yellow GSR. And as soon as the first yellow gsr arrives with Hp around 270 or 280, I'll buy it. If its less than 270, go burn in hell.

Oh and btw, Mitsu would not allow dealers to mark up the price on Evos. Mitsu is seriously struggling in the US market and the evo is being brought to strenghten its image which sucks atm. They would probably have the 0 0 0 deal going on. You know, 0 down, 0 interest, 0 payments.
I although don't know if I will buy one the moment it arrives. If this car is a major hit, mitsu's future will look good. If it doesn't well, I hate to say this, but good for me, I get that beast cheaper.

has anyone try Sunrise Mitsu in Oakdale, NY?

They were announcing the arrival of the Evo last year.

Seriously, if Wantagh Mitsu is going to get 3-4 cars a month, thats 36-48 cars a year. That will be enough for most of us on Long Island. I'd be impressed if they can even sell it at MSRP then.

well in my case i have been loving this car since the EVO V was out.
and that means i will still get this car no matter what. It can be gone sooner or later like the GALANT VR-4 which came over in 1991 - 1992.

Lets Just wait till the official info comes out before you guys even deposit or you guys would regret it. Like the HP is lower and so you know heh
