The salesperson in question may have believed the spec's he was giving were accurate. There was nothing posted above that I haven't seen floating around in rumor form at one time or another.

One can be wrong but not be lying.

In my opinion, stating something like these new car specs as if they were fact, is indeed dishonest. Are you suggesting that he didn't know that what he was saying was merely rumors?

If he wants to supply a potential customer with rumors, that's perfectly fine as long as he tells the customer "Well, these are unsubstantiated rumors, but I heard... " as opposed to "The US version is going to have cross-drilled rotors."

It just bothers me. As a representative of a company, you have to be a bit careful about what you say regarding unreleased products. If you tell a guy something, he's going to take that as more 'true' than what he reads on a rumor website. Take the responsibility and tell the truth.

Note: I'm not bashing you personally in any way. Obviously you weren't the guy who was spreading potential misinformation. I just don't want to see it written off as "Well, salespeople don't know the specs either, so they can say whatever they want."

I agree with both of you, but I know where MarkF is coming from, since I to feel "the walking stereotype" stigma. People think we lie all the time, so if I responded with "I don't know." That person might tell his buddies. "He just didn't want to tell me." or "They didn't want to do business with me." Its a no win situation with us and customers SOME times. Granted all we have to go on is what the original person posted about the conversation that took place with this salesperson, we don't get to see the other persons point of view or his/her version of the conversation. So it is possible there may actually be another side to it that we're missing.

To find out anything we have to go digging around just like the rest of you and look at the same BS rumors.
Mark....there is a difference between a moronic salesperson and one who has no official knowledge on a given topic. The one without the official knowledge will admit that he knows nothing officially, but will tell you his opinion on a topic.

The moronic salesperson will make things up based upon rumor and conjecture and try to pass them off as truth in a failed effort to seem informed. The salesguy the dude who started this thread dealt with was a moron.

Salepeople across industries seem to have this severe case of diarrhea mouth. And without proper training, they misinform, look stupid, and place the companies they represent in a bad light.
