Thumbs down just got a ridiculous call from my local mitsu dealer

I just got a call from my local mitsu dealer. The sales rep on told me that they will be placing orders for the Evo on monday, so they want to know what kind of color I want, and they want to know if I'm still willing to commit to the "10K over price". I was like "what? 10K over???!!!" He told me, yeah the car is really hot, and they'll only be getting 10 of them, and they got call from other dealers, asking them what price they'll be selling the car for, so they can all jack up the price together to 40K.

I then kindly told him to take my name off their wait list. He was like "if you ever change your mind, just give me a call and I'll try to get you a car"

Mitsubishi, if you're reading this, you dealer are f@&king you over. If they jack up the price of the Evo to $40K, you'll be lucky if you can sell 1/4 of your 5000 cars. Don't let them do this!

I'm going to wait till Feb/March, to see how much the cars are really going for. If it's over MSRP, then G35 coupe here I come

I hate to say this, but, I just have a feeling that it's gonna be just like the WRX and S2000 when they were first released. They were going to be "limited" releases, and everyone clamored to get one, lined up, and bent over, prepped for penetration just to get one of the "few" that were going to be made available. Now, look, think those people who paid twice the MSRP in the S2000 auctions aren't kicking themselves now?

Key words, "Limited Release" with emphasis on "Release". Not "Limited Production". Mitsubishi seems to be making every indication that more are to follow the release. This also tells me that at $30K Mitsubishi is making a profit on these cars rather then just breaking even, so they'll try to sell as many as they can.

Hey I heard the same thing in chicago. they told me about 31,000 plus another 10,000 because they are only getting 2 one for sale and one for test drives. I bought OZ saved alot of cash. I'am only 17 but i still have to pay $490 month for 36 months. EVO is crazy over priced but worth it. If not EVO then get a 350Z. They made a twin turbo for like 5 Gs in Japan and it will fit on us models.

I would definitely wait till it comes down and it certainly will come down. The economys not too hot and there are other new sports models out now that'll push down the price pretty quick. The "hot" new Z that folks were sayin would be marked up for months and months is being found for hundreds under msrp, if you look hard enuf.

Ive got a 1st- in line deposit down for an evo at Msrp in central florida if anyones interested.

By the way who makes that twin turbo for the Z?

blahh i'm not even thinking of getting the evo. i'm trying to think realistically here. 1. too much money 2. too much power for me to handle lolz....i think i'll just stick to trading my oz in for the supposedly 170-180hp 2004 oz hehe yea that's good enuf for me

There is another thing you need to watch out for that even "MSRP" dealerships are gonna do. They are gonna add a "paint protection" and "dealership preparation" fee. At my local dealer EVERY car has this sticker slapped on to it. They do it right when the car comes in, so to avoid it, you will have to prevent it up front. What will happen is they will do it and say oh sorry, but you will have to pay or we will sell to someone else.
A lot of dealers are doing this now, and it usually is about $2000.

talked to my dealer, where I got my lancer from, and he told me his dealership is starting at 5k over msrp. But he can get the members here a deal for less maybe at msrp, because his dealership gets between 15 and 17 evos. But this doesn't sound like good news either - hope the price is dropping soon

Well if all that is true, then I hope is reading this. I understand what they are doing, but if it's a hot car then they should be smarter and bring more cars here. Everyone knows it's going to sell well here, so they should just bring more. If they are going to jack up the price that much, then Subaru can say "hi" to me. A WRX is around the 25k range, and thats good enough for me. Since I like the Evo much more, I am willing to spend taht 30k or so on it, BUT definitely not 40k!

They will bring more cars. That's the point. I'm really gonna have to hate to say I told you so to those of you that put down deposits, but, damn, this is looking like a worse and worse deal for the "first wave of buyers."

Actually ordering a car is fine just do it correctly, meaning.
1. Money down to make valid make refundable.
2. Which make, model, and number what on list?
3. Conditons and pricing.
4. Most importantly a Manager's signature with your's to seal the contract.

This topic was discussed long ago to reserve a car correctly so the dealer will not screw you.
