Yet another shop that cant change a stock Evo tire

Well, its winter time and time to put my snow tires onto my Evo...Ive had my evo about 3 months now and it has only 3100 miles. The wheels have NEVER been taken off the car for any reason thus far, much less the tires off the rim. Exterior wise the car is perfectly stock and the wheels have never been curbed or banged up...

Im sure you guys can tell where this is going...but i will explain anyways...I take my car in to get the snow tires put on. I have to explain to them how the turbo timer works and such...i also explain to them that the factory tires are difficult to get off (or so ive heard) and to give me a call if they have any problems getting them off. I go to pick my car back up at 5:30 when its done...its dark out so I dont notice anything wrong with the wheels (plus it was about 25 deg and windy so i didnt feel like sitting there inspecting the wheels really closely with my hands)...next day is sunny but still cold and I go to inspect my wheels...all 4 wheels are scratched up and one has the finished chipped off all the way to the aluminum in 2 places...I have to wait to call them on Monday and they tell me to bring my car up there...I bring it up and speak with the manager...he comes out and looks at the car and sees all of the damage...i show him each little spot that is messed up...he says "come inside, let me show you how our machine works"...im like well i already know how it works but i follow anyways...

He shows me the machine and how it operates...he tells me there is NEVER any contact with the face of my wheel and their machine...i know he is BSing me b/c i know how the machine works...and if you do it inproperly or dont take your time, then it is very easy to scratch up the face of the wheel....im like "well, all i know is the car was in perfect condition when i brought it in and now all four wheels are scratched up and one is scratched all the way to the finish...and the scratches are only around the outside of the face not anywhere near the center"...all also told him i couldnt have curbed the wheels b/c ALL FOUR wheels have the exact same damage...he continues to stick with his word that the machine isnt capable of doing damage to the wheel...he then starts looking at the ground...im like, what are you doing...he says hes looking for silver flake and says he doesnt see any...i bend down and immediately find a piece of the paint off my wheel and hand it to him...hes silent...he then asks me the make and model of my car and says he will get some touch up paint from mitsubishi and to give him a couple of days...right now im irate, but i tried to stay calm with him and give him the benefit of the doubt for now...hes going to try to touch the wheels up, but he wont be able to b/c the scratches are so deep...

I'm going to compile all of the threads on this board (i know there are several) where people have had this problem and bring them in to him and show him its not impossible for this to happen on this car...i may have to act legally with this, although it is probably not worth it...im thinking i can at least get my lawyer to call them and they might get freaked out and get my wheels fixed professionally of give me money to replace them...i explained that this is a $30,000 car and the wheels are $3000 from the dealer...this is not just some cheap fix that some touch up paint will heal...

but anyways, i need your guys help compiling the stories of this happening to others...im going to search myself but im sure i will miss a few of them...i am also about to call Mits and get the MSRP on the wheels from them...

any other suggestions from the people who have gone through this?? Ive read a lot of threads about this it seems...and most shops just agree to fix the wheels...any ideas??

ill try to post up pictures tomorrow or tonight

Thanks!

Is it a big chain or is mom and pop store? You would have to fight hard to get your money back...

Ideally you should have buy a winter tires with steel wheel on it.

I had a similar issue happen with one of my wheels and the shop that did it had my wheel professionally repaired. They were very nice about it and never tried to deny that they had done it.

My rims are like that, scuffed on two. It was done by a reputable friend of my brother. The tires were such a *****, they HAD to scratch the rims. The way i look at it, its hard to notice unless you look for it or know its there. I am getting "real" rims in the summer and the stock enkei's will be my "beaters" so to speak. In your case, its a bit different, he's denying he did it. While my brother's friend called me up saying, your tires are going to scrattch up the rim, do you want me to continue?

Last year I had the new Blizzak LM22s put on the stock rims and Advans put on new SR22s. I had this done at my Mitsu dealer because they have an excellent balancing machine that does a better job than any others I've dealt with. They had a terrible time getting the Advans off and had to get a different breaker bar to work with their machine (sorry, don't have the name) because of the short, stiff sidewall. That accomplished, no damage was done.
So, at least if you're in Cincinnati, King's Mitsu knows what they're doing.
