Huge Mark Up !

I am a Internet Manager in Roseville California, today I recieved a call about my allocations on Evolutions from a member of evolutionm.net. He was very upset to hear my Dealership had 10,000 mark ups and that it was robbery. Well I can understand his frustration but at the same time we have a list of interested parties a mile long and very limited amount of cars available to us that Mitsubishi has chosen the colors and options for us. Im sure if we could order lots of them the price would not be so crazy but unfortunately supply and demand will hold true just like the PT Cruiser did the first year. Dont be mad at the Dealers cause they are in buisness to make a profit and Im sure if most of us had something to sell that was in demand we would sell it for top dollar also. I hope to hear everyones thoughts good and bad and hopefully see you all driving Evo's.

BAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! $10,000 Over MSRP!!!!! Thats the funniest thing ive heard all day...

Better get your duster ready because those Evo's will be sitting on your showroom floors for quite awhile....

You want to see me driving an Evo? Then sell me one at $100 over invoice, and you will definately see me driving one!

I agree, I would sell it for top dollar too. I suppose those that barely have enough to afford the car of their dreams + insurance see their dream car slip away for yet another year after being so close when the price is marked up.

I would certainly get a bit nasty if that happened, and the dealer would probably be the one taking the fall for it hehe. Thanks for explaining things, Jay

I can't imagine paying $30K + $10K when you could have the full JSpec imported for the same amount... especially when you walk out the door with it and it's already depreciated. Of course if people will pay then what can you do.

If I am going to pay $40,000 for a car, then I will buy a $40,000 car.
The unfortunate thing is that there will be some people who are willing to pay way over MSRP just to be cool for a few months!

Until I see people pay 10k over sticker, I won't believe it. The car isn't limited, doesn't have all the bells and whistles of their JDM counterparts, and will be awash in a sea of other new cars; the WRX STi, RX-8, 350z, the 6, SRT-4, MSP, GTO, and so on.

Let's not delude ourselves. The Evo is an enthusiast's car and not a car that has wide appeal like the PT. Your market will be limited. If you attempt to sell your allocations at 10k over, I predict those cars will still be sitting in your lot come Fall.

EI Imports - Warranty 1yr/12,000 miles

US Spec Evo - Warranty 3yr/36000 miles (?? - 99.9% sure)

So even though you may have a Euro Spec Evo, your warranty is pretty narrow compared to the US Spec.

There are laws and regulations in place to make sure the consumer isn't ripped off in virtually every facet of the retail industry... except cars. For some reason dealerships with the 'hot' car that month can do whatever they want. Personally I think that if people are willing to pay $10k over sticker then they deserve the car. But until a reasonable change is made in the industry to standarize dealership pricing and regulate what the poor salesman are paid markups like this will only continue.

What I like to see is a strong dealership that treats its people well, both customers and employees. You'll see these dealerships prosper and bloom into great organizations that have people come back again and again. The quick money dealerships that try to financially assault every single idiot who walks through their doors never get a fair shot at being prosperous.

I say let dealers charge what they want if they want that quick sale. My mazda dealer in Cincy has had my business twice now because I was treated fairly and without greed. I'm hoping my new Mitsi dealer works with me in a straight forward and helpful manner as well. Will I pay $10k over MSRP? You have to be freaking kidding me, no sane adult would. But there are idiots out there that will fall for those tactics and take those allocated cars away from those of us who won't. Unfortunately... thats the sales industry for cars today.

Its funny though... Mercedes Benz dosn't let that kind of crap happen. There are stiff penalties for dealer markup if a complaint if filed by a customer. I guess it comes with the market though.

Best I can say is thanks for giving it to us straight Jay. I guess that the market will set the price in our great capatalist nation.

For all my brothers on EvoM. All I have to say is that there can be no sales without buyers. You have the choice to set your limits on what you will pay. There are alot of great cars competing for your money. I for one refuse to get hung on a rediculous premium. The noose is in your court!!!

Hiya Jay.
I am that "Irate" customer that called you today.

I hope you find this forum to be "educational"

And thanks for posting your perspective. I have to agree that the Evo is NOT worth 40k... So I will shop and/or wait until I find one that costs less than 35k "out the door"

Yeah, but unless you don't plan to touch one aspect of your Evo that warranty will most likely be void. Plus, at $40K, you'd have to blow the engine under warranty just to break even

I think most of us understand how dealerships work by now and by no means can we blame them for trying to make more money. But I also don't believe the dealers should try and defend themselves on an enthusiast's forum. They can save that for the showroom.

Dam straight $10,000 mark up is robbery. How can you say anything different. I am so happy I paid lass money to buy the car of my dreams, a year ago. Instead of waiting 18+ months for a car that is too expencive and a compromised and lame imatation of what use to be the Lancer Evolution.

You guys do deserve to make a profit. But 30% markup just to drive a car off a truck and hand me the keys? No way. Remember that 30% is on top of their normal profit. Mitsu had a sure sale with me 2-3 years ago. I would have bought a EVO 4, 5, or 6 in an instant. (assuming near identical pricing and design as the JDM version).

BTW what is an "Internet Manager"? That is the dumbest job title I've ever heard of.
