of course the S4 is heavier but, with the chip and exhaust which are not that expensive for the power gains...i am not saying the EVO is not sick itself, but if the dealer is gonna mark it up that much why not get a S4

you will get leather, 6 speed tranny, sick sound system, and a gernally fast and very well handling car

if you want to argue that the EVo has recaro seats, and brembos and such, but the S4 has nice leather perforance seats, 4 piston caliper brakes, just like the brembo, but on the evo its only 4 piston calipar on the front, the rear are only two i believe, anyways without having to nitpick

i personally think if the mitsu dealers are *******s enought to mark up the price 10 grand they can keep their evos, btw the mitsu dealership in Danvers MA told me they will be sellin the evo at sticker... no mark up so any deal with a mark up should watch out

btw one more thing, the new S4 with the V8 has no turbos, but if you are lookin for a bolt on kit you might want to wait for the new RS4 with a twin turbo version of the engine, same as the RS6

I hope anyone who buys the JDM spec EVO's has access to 94 Octane or better as they require at leat that level Octane to run without knocking. An EVO VII we dynoed last week was running 91 Octane gas and was pinging quite badly under boost. It also made 217 WHP on our AWD dyno on that Octane. Adding 2 gallons of 103 Unleaded to the tank bumped power to 230 WHP and stopped the knocking. Something to think about for people looking to buy an EVO VII or VIII from the importers.

$10k markups was a dealer's pre-arrival wet dream... but the shoe is MOST DEFINITELY on the other foot for Mitsubishi now with the STi announcement debacle, the VW R32 debut, the V8 S4, new Volvos and now *maybe* the possibility of an AWD Maxima that people are all chattering about... AWD and performance are no longer pronounced exclusively EVO!!

I am betting that the EVO is going to quickly be selling for at or just below MSRP just a few weeks after it arrives, there is simply not going to be the demand that the dealers were creaming their pants over. The STi is what gets people hot and bothered now... the spotlight is most defintely off the EVO.

And I am also hopeful that EVO buyers look elsewhere for a purchase from the dealer's that tried to price gouge on the EVO pricing!!! The gougers do not deserve our money... such greed is sickening, and I can't help but chuckle and find joy in the STi's arrival and the downfall of the gougers.

hahahahha

Couldn't have said it better myself... Before the official release of the specs on the Evo VIII I thought the high mark ups from the dealers would be feasible, but now with official word that awsome limited production vehicles like the ones listed by SpikeLS1 will be coming later THIS YEAR I've come to the conclusion that it would be very foolish to spend even a dime above MSRP for the Evo VIII fearing that by the time these other competing cars severly push down the price of the Evo once these cars hit showroom floors. Although I must admit, Mitsu was smart in releaseing the Evo VIII months earlier than their competition, so that to have those mouth watering racers blinded to the fact that there cars WILL be coming, but the Evo is here NOW. All I can say is guys... Let's be smart when it comes to buying our Evo, I for one will not pay one cent above MSRP, and I'm sure my dealer will be more than happy to tell me to F off and hand me back my $1000 deposit, but I'll be more than happy to take it back and patiently wait a few months.

No one should pay above MSRP for the Evolution in my opinion, unless you've just got the money to burn (and in that case, why are you buying an Evolution? Why not pick up an imported VII?).

You guys on the coasts who are being faced with markups, call a dealer in the middle of the country. My dealer has at least one of their inititial allocations still available, MSRP guaranteed.

There probably won't be enough cars for all the people who want them in the first allocation. But I know of several midwestern dealers with cars available in the first allocation at MSRP. Once those are all gone, then I can understand paying over MSRP... but I'd rather buy a $100 plane ticket and pickup the car for MSRP than pay thousands over... just makes sense.

Good idea I could use a vacation, and at the end of it have an EVO 8 to drive home touring.

Exactly, may the gougers reap what they sow!
