specific output

At 135.5 hp per liter, is this the highest specific output of any production car engine offered in the US? I can't think of any higher ones. For all the moaning and whining about what this car doesn't have, you gotta admit that for 30 grand, the specs on this car are AMAZING! And it even has a warranty...my friends, we are in the Golden Age of automobiles.

Well, I am getting the car I want (per my dealer), and I can't wait. My 95 Eclipse is getting old.

RX-7s are awesome, but I would be concerned about their longevity. It is perfect timing for the Japanese sports car revival!

I agree with you...I was just answering your question about hp/liter.

(RX-7:1.3l, 255 hp )

Yeah, the 13B engine is amazing; however, it's a rotary engine...

Oops, my bad. Although that is sorta comparing apples to oranges...how do they calculate displacement on the old Wankel? And do they also include the volume that leaks out around the seals? lol...

Volume of combustion chamber - volume of rotor(s). This leaves the "air" volume outside the rotor as the displacement.

Sorta The best that I can think of are the following:

Rotary:
RX8 - 192.3 hp/L

N/A
Honda S2000 - 120 hp/L
Ferrari 360 - 112 hp/L

FI
Porsche 911 Turbo - 127 hp/L

Some pretty elite company in terms of potent engines. Of course, we don't really get any super-high output engines because of the stringency of our emissions testing. 135.5 is still really good

Besides rotaries, are there any engines anywhere that are better (besides the 276 hp fours in Japan)?

I think they only meant currently available engines, which is why they said hemisphere.

Isn't the S2K the highest of any production model N/A engine?
