Nice choice. I to came from an STi. I would have purchased an MR, Instead I got a great deal on a GSR. Break the car in. Call Al from Dynoflash and open the top end of the 4G63. It really is great. Never looked back on my STi.

I have had my 04 RS for bout half a yr and have loved everyminute of it.. In every car there is a choice of performance/Luxury. Talk a bout a car with everything in the performance category. Rollup windows . oldschool hauls ars and cops dont look a bit without wing. they think its regular lancer. In the end this car has way more options and stuff u can do to it than a Subaru . HUGE AFTERMARKET. good luck and enjoy.

It's true. I told them I could get an STi for 2% over invoice, and they knew I was prepared to do that if they didn't deal with me. They also discounted the gap insurance to $245 and beat my credit union's interest rate by half a point. They also let me test drive it and take it home over night to show my wife before I bought it. Oh yeah, and $0 down and no payments for 90 days. They were obviously motivated to sell it before the end of the year.

I'd rather not identify the dealer by name, but it's in the south east. I'm sure California is a more competitive Evo market.

Yep. Looks like next year I'll have a lot more competition, though.

I really liked the STi, Subaru, and my dealer, and I'm not at all interested in dissing them. As an STi owner, I always respected and appreciated Evos.

At first I figured I'd replace the STI with another. Then I started thinking about other options. In the end, the avalanche of praise the automotive press has had for the Evo and the recommendation of an '03 Evo-owning friend convinced me to give the Evo a shot. A local dealer had a gray MR, and I was able to get it for $500 over invoice.

I miss the STi's low-end grunt and flatter power band, and I miss climate control and cruise control (only a little). The Evo's crisper handling and steering, tighter feel, seats, gauges, and JATO-like boost (which I'm only getting a hint of during break-in) make up for it, though. Only time will tell how it really stacks up to the STi, though.
Congrats on the new purchase. How did the STi hold up in your accident? Remember also that the Evo doesn't have side-impact airbags like the Subie.

The STi has its own charm, but honestly the Evo looks better to me.

It was totaled, but I wasn't injured, so I'd have to say it did very well. Pics attached.

Yeah, that made the decision harder, for sure.

Good thing your ok. The Subaru’s a Japanese version of German engineering IMHO. Safe well engineered. Most people don’t know this but Subaru designed the drive shaft in 3 parts just incase of a front end collision. The Motor and tranny mounts break and the motor slides under the car to absorb impact and the Drive shafts brake apart in 3 spots.

But now you are a very luck EVO MR owner. EVO = Japanese version of Ferrari.

Good luck and enjoy

Eric

i had a WRX before, love the MR.
Both nice. With MR, you get better handling parts that you don't have to spend too much $$$ on Subaru. Save and smile while you are driving the MR!
