I don't have an extra loose clip to show you, but the clip somewhat looks like the pic above, without the big circle on the top of it and you also want a metal one ,not the plastic one shown in the pic. Essentially you slide the clip onto the intercooler mounting slots and you put a metal screw thru the threads of the clip as shown below:

This clip will also fit on various mounting slots besides the intercooler where the plastic splash shield mounts. You will see metal slots where these work when you take apart the center splash shield.

You can find these at any local hardware store. You can also find them at Pep Boys, but at Pep Boys, they are like 5X more expensive. Sure beats the cheap plastic fasteners that OEM uses.

Thanks skiracer. I think those are great and will probably use those in several spots where the plastic wheel liners meet the aluminum panel. At those points the new panel will be on the bottom side and will require a fastener of that type.

Just to let people know, while I am not an automotive engineer, I have over 34 years as a mechanical designer. Hopefully I can apply that background to design and produce a functionally elegant replacement panel.

What method do you use to secure the wheel well liners?

yeah i drove without mine for about a month and the liners were pushed into the wheels eating large holes in the liners. i had to replace them @ $75 each or something like that.

doesn't it protect stuff that hangs down from the engine from catching on something and ripping off? i was thinking that there could be oil lines that are protected by it? anyone know for sure - i'd hate for my turbo's oil line to catch on something and rip off!

From looking at my car, the right side has the engine oil cooler, the right and left side has the couplings for the intercooler, it acts as a splash pan for all of the equipment up front on the engine and directs air both through the all the coolers as well as to the front brakes. Based on that, I would say yes you need it.
