Mitsu Emission Test?

1) The car would be thoroughly inspected after testing and any out of spec parts replaced with new. They are messing with the drivetrain, so it better be put back properly but also includes stupid things like all the little fasteners that hold the undertray in place.
2) ALL fluids would be replaced, along with new plugs. Basically, the car should be in as near-to-new condition as possible when you get it back.
3) The 10 year warranty would start from the day they return the vechicle and the mileage would start there too. Furthermore, it should be guaranteed, if it's something that isn't absolutely clearly your fault, it should be covered. (Kind of the reverse of the current warranty.)
4) I'd ask for a very nice loaner car. You're giving them a $30K (new) car and should still be driving one. You should also have unlimited mileage and a gas voucher with it.
5) The $200 should be up front. Okay, I'm paranoid. :-) You might consider asking for $200 upon return too.
I think these things are along the lines of what it would take for a reasonable owner to consider giving up their vehicle. I still don't think I'd do it, but getting the vehicle back "as new" is a reasonable goal.

Wow! I just got of the phone with Someone from MItsu and he basically is going to call and find out whether or not he can give me more money and a equal value rental in appreciation for participation. I dont know if this number is accurate but the guy on the phone let me know that they sent letters to every EVO owner in california, but boshart ENG. said they only sent out 30 letters does this mean theres only 30 EVOS (03) in Cali?
The Lady from Boshart Eng. ( Ms. Wells.) said that the Evolution posed the biggest difficulty becuase of its limited run but I had no Idea that this is what she meant

He called me back and said he is gonna need more time to get my demands as he called them in order, all i asked for was equal value rental car , and way more than 200$ . I think I am also go ask him to extend my warranty to what the new "best backed cars in the world" get just to see if they'll do it
This still does not make any sense. How can you reasonably expect the manufacturer to get hold of owners cars to do a State mandated test? Something just does not seem right. The number used for Mitsu, was that from the letter or from a telephone directory.
from the letter, I dunno from what I have seen both numbers work and have the automated recording reponse when you call all and all let me put this to rest
THIS IS LEGIT, IT HAS BEEN VERIFIED THRU MITSU AND THE ENGINEERING FACILITY

I cannot believe you're even considering this. If there was really an EPA issue, Mitsu would use a test mule to deal with it, not inconvience their customers by asking them to give up their car.
Give me your Evo. I'll tune it up for you, make it all shiny, and give it back in 10 days, I promise. No, really....what's the moving van for? Nevermind that.

Heres the number 1888MITSU2004, call and prove the letter false
I gotta say this is one of the strangest things I've ever heard of in the car world. After reading all the posts in this thread I have kind of a neutral, isn't that wierd feeling about the whole thing. A few issues came to mind while reading all this, and I'd just like to throw them out out for comment.
- How many cars does Mitsu have out in the world for test mules/demo cars/press cars etc. etc. Hell Vishnu has what? 2 or 3 cars from them. Mitsu cant come up with 15 EVO's with 10k+ miles on them? For that matter if Mitsu didn't own enought cars, why dont they just look to their dealer network for used cars. If I was a car dealer $200 for 10 days off the lot, plus a free extended powertrain warranty I could pass on to my customer would seem like a great deal.
- In my experience you are going to have to install a 2wd transmission for dyno testing. Can you imagine the problems you might eventually have if they did a hack job on this?
- How many dyno pulls are they going to be able to do in 10 days minus the time to R&I the transmission? Is any knowlegeable car person going to give up their car for 10 days of redline running on a dyno?
- A reason I have never heard of this before is that a large percentage of EVO owners are active on message boards. 30 out of 9000 (or 1 in 300) owners are bound to show up here at some point. What are the odds for a Civic or Camery or Tauris owner who is active in the community getting one of these requests?
I'm not doubting that Mistsu or their contractor has requested cars from people, my question is why?

Been around since 2000...seems legit to me...if you wanted to participate in this program (I wouldn't...I couldn't stand to be without my Evo for 10 hours, let alone 10 days) you better double-check everything and verify the companies through independent sources.
Call Ken Boshart @ Boshart Engineering up and ask him what he wants with the car.
Seriously though, I'm thinking that Mitsubishi has a bunch of cars out there throwing ODB-II P0300 codes. As far as I know, major emissions components are mandated by the EPA to be covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. It seems that Mitsubishi hasn't been able to solve the P0300 issue. Perhaps they have farmed out the research to figure out how to fix these cars rather than slip into a deeper problem when a crapload of even stock Evos fail emissions tests.
