A-Pillar tweeters, help...

hey guys, just took all the speakers out of my evo last night and noticed the tweeters in the a-pillar have some crazy mounting bracket that can't be dettached from the tweeter. If I put in new tweeters, how would I go about mounting them to the a-pillar. thanks for the help.

it has worked fine in my EVO in michigan cold! Whn you remove the stock tweeter and bracket you end up with bare metal. Then you can use heavy duty double sided tape to mount the tweeter to the steel a-pillar.

I agree with Joe's_Evo8.

Use the 3M double-sided foam tape. Best stuff is that used for automotive & aviation exterior applications; is designed to bond virtually any plastic\steel combo, go through paint booths, grab like a M-F, and hold up in temp extremes that you won't survive. Longer it's on, stronger it gets.

I don't have the actual 3M tape #'s handy right now, but if I recall correctly, is the same tape used to hold the vortex generator on - similar to tape used for the badges, but thinner & stronger.

Virtually any good body shop will have it or know where to get it. You don't need a lot of it.

I put a couple small holes in the metal of the A-pillar then screwed in new tweeter mounts. Those suckers aren't going anywhere, and everything fits fine behind the A-pillar cover.

if you can hot glue the new bracket to the back, that would be the best thing to do.

Hmm, I reused the factory bracket. I can't recall what I did exactly but nothing sticks out in my mind as being unusual about it. I might have had to drill new holes in the brackets to mount the new tweeters. I used Polk separates. I do know that the screws that held the bracket to the A-pillar were a royal PITA to loosen. I swear they must have used an impact driver to install them.

What size tweeters will fit behind the a pillar? 1inch or 3/4 of an inch.

I fit a 1" Polk tweeter with no issues.

Here's what I used. The specs are on this page:

I got the Basslink. I installed it Sunday. Doesn't seem like it bumps too hard though. Just some low end fill. I was expecting a bit more. Oh well.

That's why I have 200W driving an 8" Bazooka placed directly behind the driver's seat.
